The author is as deeply green as the cover. It is still the best monograph available in English on the topic, but marred by Jacobs’ strong partisanship. Most egregiously, he does not discuss the corruption allegations against Chen Shui-bian and his wife that started political turmoil in 2006; only the persecution of former DPP officials in Ma Ying-jeou’s first term. The author relies heavily on serialising newspaper reports to construct his narrative after the introduction.
