Letters between the two authors as they prepare for a writing workshop discuss such concerns as getting started writing, writer's block, meaning, the role of the unconscious, structure, and other areas
The book has some good pointers for those who may be intrigued by the idea of writing. I found it be simple with the basics. It’s more of a motivator than anything else. Readers are inspired to take an idea in life and putting it down on paper.
Could I relate it to writing in a new convertible? Maybe in the south where the weather is warm most of the year. Certainly not in the NW where most of the stories take place. What were they thinking? We all know it rains there! Catchy title and cover, however.
A friend passed this book along to me and I’ll pass it along to someone else. It’s a way of spreading the encouragement to write. In the end, there's a list of “useful books for writers.”
3.5 stars. I've never read a book about writing books and had no expectations for this. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked how casual and relaxed it was, and appreciate that it made me stop overthinking and just start writing.
The authors attempt to offer insights and advice through letters to each other. Most of the content of the letters does not interest me, and the style is self-conscious, which makes for tedious reading. I say pray for rain so they'll put the top up.
