Essential Womanist reading.

In Katie's Canon, Katie Cannon, through a series of essays lays out the intersections of Black liberatory theology and womanist thinking. This connection, with an overarching theme of anti-oppression (anti-capitalist), is shown throughout the book in criticisms of white theology, patriarchal structures of academia, and other forms of hegemonic structures. This book pairs well with James Cone's Black Power & Black Theology. Katie's Canon seeks to use and uplift the Black Womanist tradition as a framework for the liberation of Black women, and the rest of society additionally.

I was privileged to study preaching grounded in the black tradition with Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon in 1985. This book provides powerful insights into womanist, ethicist, and the black woman's literary tradition. This would be a rich work to share in a group.
The 25th Anniversary Edition was published in 2021.
