Ride 'Em #3

Ride 'Em Hard Cowboy

Rate this book
Sheriff Joel Harper is being sued, but when he meets young attorney Jason Sherwood, he wants him to handle much more than just the lawsuit!

When Sheriff Joel Harper, ex-wrangler, is falsely accused of assault and battery by a rich rancher’s son, he turns to Royce Chandler and Charles Fletcher for legal advice. What Joel doesn’t expect is to fall immediately in lust with young attorney Jason Sherwood, Royce’s new recruit to his recently opened law office.

Their budding romance is hampered by burglary, hate-filled graffiti, hostile neighbours and co-workers, and by Joel’s own sense of responsibility to his younger brother, Toby. Can their love survive all that’s thrown at them or will Jason decide the ride is just way to rough for him to endure?

J.P. Bowie was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. He wrote his first (unpublished) novel – a science fiction tale of brawny men and brawnier women that made him a little suspect in the eyes of his family for a while.

Leaving home at age eighteen for the bright lights of London, he found himself in the midst of a “diverse and creative crowd” that eventually led him to the performing arts. For the next twelve years he sang, danced and acted his way around the theatres of London and the provinces, appearing in shows with many famous British singers, actors and comedians.

After immigrating to the US and living for many years in Las Vegas where he worked for that incomparable duo, Siegfried and Roy, J.P. found himself entranced by the fair city of San Diego where he currently lives with his partner, Phil.

J.P. loves to hear from his readers and can be contacted at jpbowie@cox.net

Ride ‘Em Hard Cowboy is the perfect third story in this series. It introduces new characters, a very hot sheriff in legal trouble and a young lawyer, but the men from the first two books also make an appearance. Add a villain who is out to disturb the peace for personal revenge, and, in my opinion, you have a winning mix.

Jason is a recent addition to Charles and Royce’s law practice. He falls for Joel, the sheriff, as soon as he sets eyes on him. He doesn’t even hesitate about showing his attraction either. Joel, is also openly gay, but has to fight the legal battle as well as vandals who attack his home where his younger brother still lives. The heat between these two men is immediate, scorching and doesn’t let up. Never mind all the obstacles fate seems to throw in their way – they are determined to make things work which I found utterly refreshing.

If you like hot sheriffs and hotter lawyers, men who are loyal to their family and fight for what they believe is right, you can’t miss with this story.

A Splendid Series of Conveniences

This review covers all four of the books in this series.

In typical J.O. Bowie fashion, each of the two MCs in all these books hit the romance running from virtually the first page even though the circumstances, as well as the virtually opposite personalities, sizes, and backgrounds of each of the four couples are a bit much to imagine as separate tales.

But Bowie's strength is that he creates a community of these guys in the rural area surrounding, and including, Sacramento, so by the time you get to the last book (so far), the whole thing seems totally believable. The sex is terrific, the characters very well drawn, and the plots are all logical, and logically handled. Given the fact that these are basically novellas, that's a tough assignment to carry off, and Bowie achieves it very well.

(This novella is featured as the opening one in the anthology Saddle Up 'N Ride)

would have been 4 stars if it would have been longer, and not so rushed. But overall it was good short story.
