A plane leaves New York at 400 mph. Another leaves Los Angeles at 350 mph...

The basics covered, you'll be ready to tackle the concepts that make up the core of algebra. You'll get clear step-by-step instructions and tutorials to help you finally understand the problems that stump you the most, including loads of tips on: Learning algebra doesn't have to be a form of torture, and with The Math Dude's Quick and Dirty Guide to Algebra , it won't be. Packed with tons of fun features including "secret agent math-libs," and "math brain games," and full of quick and dirty tips that get right to the point, this book will have even the biggest math-o-phobes basking in a-ha moments and truly understanding algebra in a way that will stick for years (and tests) to come.
Browsing through my library's Algebra offerings, this was the only one I found that taught the lessons rather than just outlining and offering a few solved problems. (Schaum's: I'm looking at you.)
Marshall did a great job of explaining the madness behind the methods. He offered real, if ridiculous, situations where one might want to use algebra. Marshall's explanations were also very thorough and that's something I've found missing in many math texts.
My only complaint is that the book ended earlier than I would have liked. I would have liked Marshall to continue covering topics.
I read most of this book to refresh my memory of Algebra. My shameful admission is that I suck at Math. Although I liked this book's chatty style and friendly style it felt too bogged down in prose and not enough problems. Having said that, the book has a great section on solving quadratic equations that I found very useful.
Fun way to review Algebra, in such a way that the real-world applications help it stick. Feel better prepared for the higher math I'm teaching myself now.
Did you forget your Algebra, really, you didn't use it every day, so maybe you forgot order of operations, or never were good at factoring, and just need a review, CHOOSE THIS BOOK. It is full of explanations and exercises that will help you with all that pesky algebra you should have learned and remembered
I hope to get this book and read it and pass along to my husband that teaches MATH! I'm sure he'd love it and maybe get to use it in one of his Algebra classes!
