A hunter finds an orphaned baby and he and his wife adopt it and raise it as their own.

A9-B05-ACC-36-DF-4-D37-8-A75-FD3-BC0-BF38-D6

The child has a strange sensitivity to storms, which complicates their life and leads to danger. Fantasy setting, feudal touches, pre-industrial, some magic.

The artwork is nice enough. The characters look human, with animalistic features.

The story was not for me, it felt too YA for my taste and a little boring. I will not continue.

Flat storyline. Didn’t care much about the art. Still, once begun, let me see how far I can get in this series.

A newborn child is found is the forest, still attached by the umbilical cord to his dead mother, who had apparently been struck by lightning. Raised by the hunter who found him, Laith's peculiar reaction to storms draws attention, and once his abilities reveal themselves powerful people beyond the village begin to pay attention. A decent enough book, without being at all remarkable.

The artwork is nice but the plot is boringly average and the writing isn't any better. I don't expect to read any of the other volumes.

This is the first instalment of a French graphic novel in five parts, translated into English and currently available on Kindle Unlimited.

The art is detailed and full of visual imagination and world building, but at times a little unclear and lacking in visual storytelling.

The story is relatively straightforward with a mysterious orphan with wild powers sheltered by reluctant, fearful villagers and pursued by two baddies who would make corrupt use of those powers. One of those two foes knows much about the child’s origins.

The storytelling is a little awkward overall, and I think the translation is a little suspect. It’s a good read, but nothing special.

Nevertheless, I’ll gladly read on.

As the series progresses, I note this is rather old school in that the story is all male. Females are few and far between, being only mothers, love interests or shrewish bystanders. That’s disappointing.

*****

I have now found the original French version on Kindle Unlimited. As I have read this book again, the score rises to four stars according to my rules, but that’s a bit generous.

More like 3,5. A bit standard plot-wise, but nice drawing and colouring.
