I owned this book as a tween and it has been living rent-free in my head for nearly a quarter of a century. When I found a copy online, I decided to revisit it to see if I still found it as odd as I did when I first read it. In short: yes—and on top of that, it didn’t age well. There are some good beginner meditation techniques in it that I think hold up now, but most of the guidance and recipes are too advanced or costly for an actual tween. There is an abundance of ableism, classism and cultural appropriation in the book, as well as many other viewpoints that have not aged well.
