I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

A blackmail-into-marriage story that starts out with some horribly clunky dialogue and thin world-building, but then hits its stride about half-way through.

The heroine's brother, who has a police record, sank the hero's yacht because he blames him for his father's heart attack after he was fired from the hero's company for financial inconsistencies. Heroine sends her brother to the Outback and covers for him when the hero turns up at her door. The brother is so useless and so devoid of personality that it's hard to understand why the heroine would go to any lengths for him.

Hero suggests a marriage of convenience for six months or so as a smokescreen for his alleged affair with another woman. The heroine argues and balks and finally gives in. There was an amusing scene where the heroine dresses like a prostitute for their first date in public and he takes her to a strip bar and then a fancy restaurant (As he says, something for the both of them).

Heroine makes her own wedding dress so she doesn't have to spend the hero's money, but she is not thrilled with the rustic cabin in the mountains where he takes her for their honeymoon. One bed, a cold water shower, and an outdoor toilet. (This reviewer would not have been happy, either). This where the story picks up and the H/h are shown to be compatible (but still not trusting each other).

Then the heroine is blackmailed by the man who set up her father - heroine is torn because she loves the hero now - but can she trust him?

This only goes on for a chapter or two, but it elevated the tension and added interest to the standard blackmail-into-marriage story.

Heroine is a virgin. It's not clear if hero had an affair with the guy's ex-wife, but he wasn't with anyone after he married the heroine.

Passionate "forced marriage" romance. Very feisty but vulnerable heroine and as it is expected from MM hero is sex on legs! Enjoyed their chemistry and their playful flirty banter!

Melanie Milburne writes some really good Greek/Australian alpha-males, who fall in love, using blackmail is not above their means in getting the gorgeous, feisty and in dire straits Australian heroine into their beds!!!

This story is one of those...billionaire sexy Greek forces the heroine to marry him by using his means to have her poor brother go to prison.

I started off not really hitting it off with either h/h...she was such a whinger and whiner and I had no idea why he needed a wife so desperately!!!

Anyway, Demetrius takes Madison to his "villa" in the outback..and that's when I really got into the story....but the first half ...nah,...did not do anything for me.

Despite my initial feelings, it did turn out to be a sweet and romantic HEA...

A nicely done “blackmail because of your delinquent brother” trope.

The H was a bit of a tosser. He forces the h to marry him because he blames her delinquent teenaged brother for sinking his one point five million dollar yacht.

The h, a real sassy pants, agrees to the marriage to save her brother from jail. The H treats her like she’s the criminal but she fights back every chance she gets.

Turns out, the H was wrong about all his assumptions and has to do some groveling. Not enough imho, but the h seemed happy enough.

An enjoyable read. I really liked the h. Her brother and the H were idiots, but they eventually redeemed themselves.

This is not an original story its one that crops up often sister had to make amends for something a reckless brother has done and the punishment is death, I mean marriage!
She hates the H because he ruined her dad and for a change dads actually innocent and she's right to hate him but she sucks it up and marries our nature loving H anyway. She's a virgin bit of course she doesn't hold out long and then she falls in love with him. Realising who set daddy up she tries to help the H but of course it gets ballsed up he finds out and there's the big misunderstanding and he kicks her out. Turns out bro didn't sink his battleship after all the villain did and when he returns to the penthouse seeing her dirty wet snot rag on the floor means she didn't betray him after all it's love and he must go after her. Where did she run to? His jungle house pffft!

Typical Alpha male who takes advantage of the heroine who protects her brother when he tries to damage the yacht of the hero. The hero is a user who thinks he has all the answers and shows no concern for others. Some passion but nothing special and no compassion for the virgin bride. The secondary male characters with the hero are not very likeable.

Years ago, Demetrius destroyed Maddison's father and she's nurtured her anger. But it's her brother who sinks his yacht and it's Maddison who has to protect him by standing up to Demetrius. But Demetrius is in control and has the leverage to make her do whatever he wants - and he wants to see just how far she'll go to protect her brother. And so he blackmails her into marrying him. She agrees to a marriage on paper, but he seduces her for more and she goes along with it. As much as she hates him, she's shocked when she realizes she's in love with him. But she's promised to destroy him with everything she has, and when someone implicates her in a revenge scheme, she'll have trouble convincing him she wasn't a part of it.

Mostly I didn't like this because Demetrius was an asshole. I mean, there are assholes that become lovable and then there's Demetrius who had no redeeming characteristics, except perhaps that he liked nature? His personality was such that when Maddison realized she was in love with him I had to flip back through the book for reasons why. And given everything he'd done and the asshole he eventually acknowledge to being, I can't believe he had the gall to be angry when he thought she'd actually gotten her revenge. And he didn't even have to grovel. He had a somewhat decent apology, admittedly better than most, but given his sins, the man needed to grovel on bended knee. I did at least appreciate that the heroine was not a doormat - yes she became lust putty in his hands and her fighting did little when faced with his iron control and clever tricks, but she didn't go along meekly.

Okay storyline, tiresome heroine

The heroine was tiresome. She agreed to the marriage terms to keep her brother out of jail yet every other sentence she uttered was to challenge those terms. She was constantly angry when reminded that if she didn't hold up her end of the agreement then the hero wouldn't hold up his end and her brother would go to jail. She was tiresome, repetitive and bratty. The author could easily have made her character more sympathetic, vulnerable and appealing. Too often it seems that authors while trying to make female leads appear strong and independent are only making them appear contrary, argumentative and immature. If you want to read a romance with a strong female lead try Clare Connelly. With few exceptions her books succeed where this one failed.

The second half of the book was much smoother and a better read than the first half. The H starts off being a cold, unemotional jerk with few redeeming characteristics. Later there are hints that a better person is hiding within his thick skin. On their honeymoon, he takes her to his special place of quiet, rest and relaxation instead of a tourist vacation spot with little meaning to him.

The h was almost too OTT defensive in the first half of the book. In later parts of the story, she had settled down and stopped being so....angry. It seemed like all of them grew up (including the brother) and were much happier people.

The leading man was not very strong as a character

Not what I expected-the leading man was weak and the plot lacked depth -both protagonists were not as strong as they needed to be to make this a page turner.

Defiant

This tale of love and woe is not typical as love stories of this type go. There is absolutely nothing run of the mill about this unique story. Enjoyable and unique.

It takes every ounce of strength she has to get through the wedding--Maddison hates her new husband as much as he hates her.

Both the characters were very likable. Maddison was very feisty, but with a good heart and Demetrius was strong willed but very sweet.

Good read
Definately recommended!
