This book is a great resource for authors trying to make the pre and post elements / consequences of an action scene realistic. I can't comment on its military applications.

Intended for all branches of the United States military. Mainly intended for aviators and others who might be cut off from friendly forces, it gives advice on how to avoid capture and survive until back in friendly hands. There are some decent tips for the outdoorsman.
