Pirate Pete and Pirate Joe trade in their swashbuckling swords for ten-gallon hats when they head west to search for their cousins Cowboy Clete and Cowboy Moe at the Rude Dudes' Dude Ranch.
My name is Ann Edwards ("A. E.") Cannon, and I write books for young readers, as well as a weekly column for the Deseret News. I also teach creative writing and work as a bookseller at the famous King's English Bookshop in Salt Lake City. My husband, Ken, and I have five (count 'em) sons, two daughters-in-law, no grandchildren (not yet, anyway) two parakeets, one parrot, two cats, and two dogs. One of the dogs weighs (no kidding) 160 pounds.
Despite the fact that everyone has forgotten his birthday, Pirate Joe joins Pirate Pete in a quest to the west to save their country cousins.
This story was written by Author A. E. Cannon and and illustrated by Elwood H. Smith. The story was published in New York, New York by Penguin Group in 2006.
A.E. Cannon owns a parrot, cats, and dogs, just like Pirate Pete and Pirate Joe. A.E. Cannon and Elwood H. Smith show of their love for animals by including them in almost every illustration in the story. The reader is also introduced to bigger and sillier pet at in the West.
If you like looking at silly animals accompanying a silly story, this book will hit the spot.
This is a funny story, although I'm guessing it appeals to boys (in general) more than girls. Our girls didn't really like it very much, but even still, it was a creative and silly story that is fun to read aloud.
