It's all fun and games-until someone catches your eye...
To Sarah Lazin, gorgeous men are like bargain-basement grab bags-nice wrapping with nothing inside but junk. She's ready to dismiss Alex Caine as just another pretty face, but she soon learns there's much more to him than that. He's a man she could love, if only she can forget her past and the handsome lover who scorned her. Will Sarah give Alex the chance he deserves, or will she keep pushing him away by saying they have "nothing in common?"
Megan Hart has written in almost every genre of romantic fiction, including historical, contemporary, romantic suspense, romantic comedy, futuristic, fantasy and perhaps most notably, erotic. I really want to give this book a 3.5 stars, but since I can't I bumped it up to 4. Sarah Lazin sister is everything she is not. While her sister is beautiful and almost famous, Sarah is quiet and more unassuming. Taking care of her sister and her family, she has become the rock other's depend on. Being hurt by a very handsome man in the past, she is leary of getting involved with a man who is prettier than she is. Alex Caine is tired of people judging him by his good looks. A successful resturant owner and investor, he is immediately taken with the quiet Sarah and heavily persues her despite her objections. Alex is a wonderful hero. Although he is quite stunning, he is also funny and smart. I enjoyed some of the antics he got himself into. He is more Beta than Alpha, but he definately has some alpha qualities that make him a very interesting character. The problem I had with the book is Sarah's character. I liked her most of the time, but she is so hung up on not getting involved with a handsome man she is quite cruel and stubborn to Alex at times. At one point, I wanted to tell Alex myself to find someone who didn't constantly have something negative to say to him. But, having said that she finally comes around and the ending was very satisfying. If strong language and explict sexual situations offend you, this book is not for you.
Dasie Mae's review say's it all. It's a very sweet love story. Sarah got on my nerves with her insecurities and meaness to Alex. He was such a sweet and tender guy. The secondary characters in this book were great also.
I read this as an iBook and couldn't put it down. I liked the storyline and even though the main character was a little annoying I could see where her insecurities came from. The sex scenes were erotic and hot and I loved the connection the two of them had. I did feel like the end of the book was too rushed and a letdown though. Overall one of the better Megan Hart books that I have enjoyed
All in all, a good read. Sarah had some issues that were annoying at times but having dealt with low self-esteem myself, I could understand to a degree where she was coming from.
It's 4.5 stars for me I could make it up to 5 stars but I couldn't because of the ending. I like Lila despite her low self-esteem, continuously comparing herself with her sister added up with the blow from her ex-lover that you trusted and expected so much. Lots of people say Lila Lazin's attitude is annoying but then I couldn't find myself to be that annoyed anyway. She struggles with every word she convey to Tom Caine and that's what it is with people with low-esteem, no matter what, doubt always crept in. I love Tom Caine so much, that I might be biased in my judgement, it's been a while since I fall in love with a character after all. The only thing that makes me cannot give this book 5 star is the ending. I was hoping for the ending to be a blast, to be something that's not.... Just like that... But overall this book is one of my Megan Hart's favourite :)
Read on Oyster. This book didn't really work for me. I had a hard time connecting with Lila, and at times thought she was really mean to Tom. I just didn't see them together or why he would be with her after some of the things that she did. The conflict was resolved too quickly and cutesy for my taste. The ending didn't match the tone of the book.
This was adorable. The interactions between the hero and heroine were super sweet. The heroine was insecure about her looks, just like I like 'em, but really this gets more notice because it was cute without being annoyingly sugary.
Re-read in July 2017 - still cute and a little insecure/angsty
Hart's novels even when it's not great is not bad either. So, this one is any woman's dream come true: the gorgeous man falling for the ugly duckling. However, because it is a Hart's novel at least the characters have more depth then similar one with the same plot.
2.5 stars I read this after reading a great book, so it was hard for me to get into it. It just seemed cheesy. Megan Hart is still one of my favorites though!
