This is a version I had never read before. It's more dynamic on the linies of the living Bible version.

The Common English Bible uses 'The Human One' instead of 'Son of Man', eschews traditional theological language such as ''repent" and has translators from denominations regarded as liberal. At first glance it would be a version I would be averse to.

However, I decided that in my quiet time, having finished the scheme I had been using, I would read large sections of the Bible rather than a short section and notes on the selected passage. I picked up the CEB because I knew it was supposed to be easily read and it had a suggested reading plan.

I found the translation to be in good idiomatic English and the theological terms were explained in the text. Some of the renderings I found brought out the meaning better for an English reader than more traditional translations.

Some parts, such as the gospels, Acts, the letters of John and the general epistles were excellent. Paul's letters less so. There was no softening of the wrath of God. The term "wrath" was used.

My opinion? I love the Common English Bible and I have added it to the translations I keep at hand when studying for sermons as I will want to know how the CEB translators have handled a passage.

This is a new translation of the New Testament, which I'm finding much easier to read than other translations. It has a few differences that I'm finding fairly thought-provoking. I've not read the Bible all the way through before, so this is an interesting experience for me!

AUDIO VERSION. The translation is very good and helpful. The audio however has some sound issues at various places. But the narrators are good so I have listened to this five times but I’m putting it aside because of the sound issues that are irritating when listening.
