About the author

JoAnn Early Macken is the author of six picture books, including Grow, Baby Says “Moo!”, Waiting Out the Storm, and Flip, Float, Fly: Seeds on the Move, and more than one hundred educational books for children. Her poems appear in many children’s magazines and anthologies, including Hop to It! Poems to Get You Moving and the Poetry Friday Anthology for Celebrations. Her poetry instruction guide Write a Poem Step by Step is based on her workshops.

JoAnn earned her M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has taught graduate, undergraduate, and continuing education writing courses at four Wisconsin colleges. She presents writing workshops for writers of all ages.

I love the photos bcause the tigers look so real and so clear. I learned a lot about tigers while reading this book.

Tigers/Los Tigres is a short and simple science book that gives facts about tigers and encourages children to visit them at the zoo. I have this book in the science center to help start discussions and expand their knowledge about tigers. The photo pictures are great and expand their knowledge about an animal that most of them have not seen but can relate to a cat, only much bigger. I like having bilingual English/Spanish books for the children as about half of my class has Spanish as their first language and they can see Spanish in print with these books.

So this is another one of those "animals at the zoo" books and you know what? I've never been to a zoo. But it's still interesting with good words I could read some of. So this is a good one.
Tigers all have different stripes and they like to be alone. That's interesting.

This book is for students who are meet the DRA level of 6-8. It is an informational book instructing about tigers. Good picture clues, diagrams, labels, headings, information, etc.
