Great visual learning book. Everyone old and young can enjoy and learn from these books. I love the pictures and layouts they use to explain the topic. This is just a fun and entertaining book to read and enjoy. My highest recommendation

⬆️ A little bit of nostalgia from an age of hopes and dreams…
A DK Eyewitness book on Energy. The previous sentence should suffice as a review if you’re familiar with DK’s Eyewitness series, but here’s a swift description: a book tackling the subject lightly with tons and tons of amusing images. It’s ok, I liked it.
Personal takes on various topics regarding this book:
- so what is energy? For the time being, my understanding of it is as follows: it’s the inevitable governed linearly branching behavioral interactions between the building blocks* of reality as we understand it, leading to an inevitable change or rearrangement if you will. We use it by being in the right place within that flow of change. *whatever those might be!
Now I’m not a scientist nor smart, the previous descriptions might be nonsense!
- about DK Eyewitness books: way way back when I was a kid, I saw a number of DKE books in a newly opened bookstore. They were super overpriced by the seller (typical!) and managed to buy one book that I still have to this day. The bookstore? It went bankrupt (again, typical!). That was in the late 90s. Way back those books were Google image search for me and I so much wished I owned ALL of them! And here I am today fulfilling my dream and now I own a bunch. I still love the series but I also noticed that it’s not perfect and can be super biased when it comes to historical stuff, especially about a certain things. Also the newer editions are worse than the original ones, thus I look for older used ones as much as possible.
- those books are a great supplement to any more-involved study of a subject. They’re fun and light and take you on a VISUAL journey.
- academic texts (especially local ones) tend to make a couple of practices that I don’t like, here’s a few:
1- it gets carried away with the scientific “model” up to the point where it start addressing it as pure reality!
2- it tends to put a lot of emphasis in the mathematical side while neglecting the visual-observational-experimental “how do we know” factor (almost 99% completely neglected with local books). So for the curious mind who’s not just interested in learning a mathematical trick here and there, it’s confusing and one end up asking: what the hell are we talking about here anyway?!
So DKE books can help as supplements to such situations.

كتاب "الطاقة" من سلسلة "Eyewitness" الصادرة عن دار DK. قد تكون الجملة السابقة كافية بحد ذاتها كمراجعة إذا كنت على دراية بهذه السلسلة، ولكن إليك وصفاً موجزاً: إنه كتاب يتناول الموضوع بأسلوب خفيف وممتع، مع وفرة هائلة من الصور المسلية. إنه كتاب جيد؛ لقد نال إعجابي.
آراء شخصية حول مواضيع شتى تتعلق بهذا الكتاب:
- إذن، ما هي الطاقة؟ في الوقت الراهن، يتلخص فهمي لها فيما يلي: إنها تلك التفاعلات السلوكية الحتمية -التي تحكمها قوانين وتتفرع بشكل خطي متشعب- بين اللبنات الأساسية* للواقع كما ندركه، مما يؤدي إلى تغيير حتمي أو "إعادة ترتيب" إن جاز التعبير. ونحن نستفيد منها من خلال التواجد في المكان المناسب ضمن مسار ذلك التغيير. *أياً كانت ماهية تلك اللبنات!
والآن، لستُ عالماً ولا أدعي الذكاء؛ فربما يكون تعريفي مجرد هراء!
- بخصوص كتب "DK Eyewitness": منذ زمن بعيد، حين كنت صبي، رأيتُ مجموعة من هذه الكتب في مكتبة افتُتحت حديثاً. كان البائع يبالغ كثيراً في أسعارها (وهذا أمر معتاد!)، لكنني تمكنت من شراء كتاب واحد منها لا يزال بحوزتي حتى اليوم. أما المكتبة؟ فقد أفلست (وهذا أيضاً أمر معتاد!). حدث ذلك في أواخر التسعينيات؛ في ذلك الوقت، كانت تلك الكتب بمثابة "محرك بحث للصور" بالنسبة لي، وكم تمنيتُ لو أمتلكها جميعاً! وها أنا اليوم أحقق حلمي وأمتلك مجموعة منها. ما زلت أحب هذه السلسلة، لكنني لاحظت أنها ليست مثالية؛ إذ قد تكون متحيزة للغاية فيما يتعلق بالمواضيع التاريخية، وتحديداً في جوانب معينة. علاوة على ذلك، فإن الطبعات الأحدث أقل جودة من الطبعات الأصلية، ولذلك أحرص قدر الإمكان على البحث عن النسخ القديمة والمستعملة.
- تُعد تلك الكتب مكملاً رائعاً لأي دراسة متعمقة لأي موضوع؛ فهي ممتعة وخفيفة وتأخذك في رحلة بصرية شيقة.
- تميل النصوص الأكاديمية (وخاصة المحلية منها) إلى اتباع بعض الأساليب التي لا تروق لي، وإليك بعضاً منها:
1- المبالغة في التركيز على "النموذج" العلمي لدرجة التعامل معه وكأنه حقيقة مطلقة وواقع ملموس!
2- الميل للتركيز الشديد على الجانب الرياضي مع إهمال الجانب البصري والرصدي والتجريبي -أي الإجابة عن سؤال "كيف نعرف ذلك؟"- (وهو جانب يُهمل تماماً بنسبة تقارب 99% في الكتب المحلية). لذا، بالنسبة للعقل الفضولي الذي لا يكتفي بتعلم حيلة رياضية هنا أو هناك، يصبح الأمر مربكاً ويدفع المرء للتساؤل: عن ماذا نتحدث بالضبط هنا؟!
وهنا تبرز أهمية كتب DKE كعامل مساعد ومكمّل في مثل هذه الحالات.

Another great Eyewitness book, this one focussing on energy including the types and how to harness it. I found the section titled the future of energy really interesting with some pretty great photos. As usual, lot of information in really easily digested bits.

Genre: non-fiction, scientific
This book gave me a good understanding of energy. I learned about many different kinds of energies and facts. I also learned that there are many energies existing in our lives other than common energies we know such as heat energy, kinetic energy and sound energy. One of the reasons why i like this book is because it has many pictures that help you to understand easily. It is not boring to read this book with the pictures.
I would recommend this book to everyone because this book is such a good and informative book. You can actually learn new things by reading this book. The pictures also help you to learn.
