10,000 Zombies: Create More Than 10,000 Zombies and 10,000 Stories (IMM Lifestyle Books) Forward by Rob Zombie

Rate this book
This features a ghoulish gallery of undead, illustrated by master of the zombie arts David Hartman. The split page format divides the figures at the neck and waist, so that zombie heads, torsos and legs can be chopped and changed at will. For example, flip: the top and you have a ghoul with his eye hanging out the middle to reveal its skeleton body and bloody stomach the bottom to find its decomposing lower half revealing mechanical legs Every time you turn a page a new story is revealed as the text is completely interchangeable.

This is endlessly entertaining. There are so many possible story combinations, and the images are gruesome; it's great fun for zombie fans!

Just a few of my favorite story elements:
~health supplements, Nu Yu, are responsible for the zombie outbreak
~there is no zombie outbreak; you're a padded-room dweller
~the zombies work together and set a trap for their prey, you; smart zombies - yikes
~the zombie apocalypse is all your fault... Oops.

This book won't win any literary awards, but it is good fun, and the illustrations are gorgeously grotesque.

One doesn't read a book like this expecting fine literature. Arguably one doesn't even expect to read the book from cover to cover. Rather, one expects a fun and charming novelty book to which one can return from time to time for a bite-sized bit of zombie fun. And that's exactly what it is.

Each page, such as it is, is divided into three sections. On the left side, we get a zombie story, with the three sections reflecting a beginning, middle, and end. On the right, we get a drawing of a zombie. But because we can turn the pages on the three sections individually, we can mix and match to create, as the title suggests, over 10,000 different combinations of stories and zombies. That's, frankly, a lot of fun.

With regard to the stories, because they are created by combining interchangeable sections, the tales don't necessarily follow any great logical flow, and certainly aren't going to win any literary awards. That said, the author is to be credited with writing the sections in such a way that despite mixing up the text, each iteration comes out feeling like a mostly coherent flash fiction piece.

Similarly, the artwork is drawn in such a way that each zombie cartoon manages to look coherent despite being made of randomly selected heads, torsos, and legs. Admittedly, a few of them don't match quite as well as others, but by and large, each resulting zombie looks entirely plausible, as zombies go.

And that makes this book extremely charming. It's a lot of fun to flip to random pages and see what kind of zombie and zombie story we can create. As I said, you won't likely enjoy trying to read it cover to cover, but it's the kind of thing you'll regularly pull off the bookshelf just to see what new concoction you can come up with given a minute or two of spare time.

It also makes a perfect novelty gift for the horror or zombie fan in your life.

This book is entertaining, definitely has interesting and creative stories to make.
It's not awful and it's not good, but it's definitely in the middle..
Just a fun time to sit and read the hilarious stories that can be combined.

How do you get 10,000 zombies in a book this size? One bite at a time.

First thing to say is even though there are scissor marks on the front cover you don't need to cut the pages of this book as it comes pre-cut with all the bits attached to a swivel spine.

Second thing to say is that I haven't tested all 10,000 combinations of stories and pictures but I have studied all the component parts. The stories are well written and action-packed although it is obvious that there are breaks in them and sometimes they don't work (e.g. he was an armless zombie, then I grabbed his hand). The images are good too, and imaginative.

Third thing to say this is a novelty gift really. It might be good for zombie lovers like people that play zombie games such as Dead Island, Dead Rising etc. A book to look at every once in a while for a bit of fun.

This book is so fucking awesome. At first I'm like, Yeah zombies are cool but this looks like a kids book. No no no, this book is entertaining, humorous, well put together and out and out fun. I've had so much fun constructing zombies and then reading their story. If you see this book and don't buy it you are missing out on hours of entertainment. Buy this book!

This is an amazing and fun book to play with. I purchased it as a gift and am sending it on its way to my bests friends daughter to see what she thinks.

I loved the book and found the stories cute and funny. I hope she likes it.
