Miss Milligan, after a brief general and historical survey, gives in the introductory chapters detailed instructions on the basic steps and movements; the diagrams which are liberally scattered throughout this section will greatly aid the learner and serve to remind the more experienced.
To assist the reader in rapidly finding a particular dance, all are arranged alphabetically under their most common names; in addition a complete alphabetical index is provided at the back to cover those dances which have two or more names. Under each heading is given the time, a suggestion for a tune and clear instructions on the series of basic movements which make up the dance. One or more illustrations are included to make the movements absolutely clear.
To help those who wish to draw up a varied evening's programme the list on p.155 shows separately the jigs, strathspeys, reels etc, and marks also those which are especially suitable for children.
Published with the full approval of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (of which Miss Jean C Milligan was a founder).
Clear descriptions, fits the pocket, quick to reference in practice, proven in my experience. This is THE book I take with me to Ceilidhs (Scottish dances).
This book talks about the history of many Scottish dances that are remember fondly or not so fondly from school days. It will refresh your memories of the steps and will prepare you for your next Scottish wedding of ceilidh.
