Miguel moves in with Ruby as her 24/7 protection, and it doesn't take him long to confirm that her claims are valid. Someone in terrorizing her. And Miguel vows to find out who and stop him. And maybe, if he's lucky, he'll become more than just Ruby's bodyguard. Maybe he'll be her knight in shining armor and give her the lift she deserves. A slow burn, close proximity, multicultural romantic suspense... lots of feels, a swoonworthy hero, and a courageous heroine. HEA guaranteed. Never any cheating. Felt very clunky at first, danger didn’t come anything, & agoraphobia wasn’t well written.
Firstly I have to say that I love April Wilson’s books. (Most of them.) This one felt very awkward and clunky at first. Even the sex scenes felt really awkward and clumsy. Which is bizarre as Beth and Shane were HOT! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 There were a lot and I mean a LOT of sentences starting with: Then he, then she. The writing didn’t flow. I was really looking forward to Miguel’s book as I loved him when he was with Beth, so i was really disappointed with this. It never really explained a lot of things either.
Then there’s Ruby’s agoraphobia. She’s had it her whole life after witnessing something really traumatic, and it was mostly really well written. Until near the end of the book, when it seemed like the author got bored and shoved her out the door!!! One minute she can’t sit on her balcony and can’t have people round to her flat, the next she’s going to the beach???? Erm nooooo! It would have taken her months with serious counselling to get anywhere near that stage.
Ruby suffers from severe agoraphobia and is being terrorised by someone. Her father thinks she’s imagining it all, but her godfather believes her, and hires McIntyre Security to guard her. Miguel is hired to find out if Ruby is being really stalked, or if she’s imagining it. When it soon becomes clear that someone is definitely stalking her, Miguel is determined to help her. As they’re in close quarters while he stays with her, they start to develop feelings for each other. This part of the plot seemed really rushed. One minute they’re having meals together, the next he’s kissing her. There was no build up to their relationship at all. It felt very rushed and I didn’t feel any chemistry with them.
This is a unique storyline. The way the author thought about how someone would go about terrorizing, Ruby Foster, a twenty-four-year-old, artist who suffers from, agoraphobia and paranoia. How it's her, Godfather Edward who is her only supporter. Her father only belittles and berates her. She believes she has someone who is, targeting her or harassing her. Her father said, she was crazy for thinking, she could live on her own. However, for the last two years, she has been proving him wrong.
Miguel Rodriguez is a thirty-year-old bodyguard, at McIntyre Security, Inc. He seems to be a floater ever since the series started. But an important piece to a lot of, the McIntyre puzzles. He was, Beth’s first bodyguard, and he was, Ian’s bodyguard, too. He was there anytime anyone needed backup. For every birth, and wedding. He is an honorary, McIntyre. So, when Shane called him in on this assignment he was all in. When he met her and saw her beauty, and the fear that was marring that beauty, it was all he could do to keep, from growling.
It didn't take long for the players of this ruse to show themselves. They are good, Miguel will give them that much. He had a pretty good idea, but what he really needed, was hard evidence. Life is so narrow for Ruby. Life only exists within the walls of her apartment. Life after her mom was killed became unbearable. Her father, Allen turned into a man she didn't even know anymore. He treated her with such hatred.
Once, Miguel moves in with, Ruby things get amped up. It's like whoever has been scaring, Ruby is now after Miguel. But, not to scare him, but to harm him. So. Not. Cool. This is such a suspenseful storyline. It kept me wanting more. I like how he brightened her world, by standing by her side, as she branched out into, the real world.
🐱🎨Pretty sure the dead squirrels on your door is proof.
🐱🎨Miguel is doing nothing to make Ruby at ease. It's very awkward to read.
🐱🎨The stalker will stop for the moment if you announce that Ruby isn't alone anymore. What were they expecting?
🐱🎨The way they're established Layla and Ruby's friendship is weird. Miguel was like you have trauma, she has trauma, such a common ground you guys should be friends....errrr ok.
🐱🎨If it's her dad thn this book really sucks on the mystery part cause he's one of the obvious suspect.
🐱🎨Why would you tell the girl your friend clearly has a thing for that girls come after him left and right?
🐱🎨That was such a Disney move. Oh Allen's not my father Edward is. Delete Allen, add Edward 👍 I really hate when I don't feel the spark/connection in the romance. Ruby and Miguel's romance is missing that spark. I also didn't like how they handled the agoraphobia situation at the end. You can't bulldoze through your issues. And the reasoning behind her trying didn't sit well with me. She's only doing this because otherwise she'll be a liability to Miguel and hold him back. I understand any reason is good enough if she succeed but still. And Miguel kinda became her crutch. I also remember now that I DNF Layla and Jason's book and I can see that their relationship resulted in same way. This is the thing with this author and me, her blurbs wring me in but the book themselves make me struggle. The mystery in this book was bland as well, no plot you couldn't predict.

Agoraphobic artist Ruby Hammond’s certain her mother’s murderer is stalking her 20 years later. Her father, whose been cold since her mom’s death, doesn’t believe Ruby; her godfather’s always in her corner and hires McIntyre security, Miguel Rodriguez is assigned. When Ruby’s dad finds out Miguel was not only hired but is sharing Ruby’s apartment, he’s furious.
It doesn’t take long until Miguel is able to attest to the truth of Ruby’s claims, he gets an opportunity to see things first hand as well as a read a warning to Ruby to get rid of him. Threats to Ruby escalate when Miguel is attacked and Ruby is later poisoned and hospitalized. Despite obstacles, Miguel doesn’t lack suspects trying to get to the bottom of Ruby’s issue.
I liked but really didn’t love this outing. (Snark) I’m fine with Ruby’s brilliance eight and cluelessness at 24 (among other things). Really, I am! And what’s his excuse? There also wasn’t enough suspense/mystery in the read to my taste but the villain was evident at first appearance. Nonetheless, it’s a fairly interesting read Rating: 3.5stars
This is a fabulous suspense, romance and slow burn read. Ruby having witnessed her mothers murder as a child has become an agoraphobic living alone in an apartmentfor the last 2 years. Someone has begun to terrorise her, but no one seems to believe her when she explains what is happening. Miguel is a bodyguard working for McIntyre Security and after his boss assigns him to Ruby to find out if she is either losing her mind or actually being harassed he moves in to her apartment to find the truth. It doesn't take him long to realise that she is indeed being stalked and how their story progresses and how the twists and turns affect everything makes this another great book from April Wilson. The characters are well thought out, Ruby is gentle but a frightened woman dealing with her agrophobia and Miguel is understanding, kind and protective in dealing with the mental health issues. A 5 star read and addition to this series.
Love this book. Love Ruby and Miguel’s romance story. Miguel’s story is one that I have anticipated since reading “Vulnerable.” Miguel is hired as a bodyguard to try and figure out if someone is terrorizing Ruby. Ruby suffers from agoraphobia and hasn’t left her apartment in two years. Her father doesn’t believe Ruby is being terrorized while her godfather believes her. It took a lot of courage for Ruby to let Miguel in her space. As Miguel starts watching Ruby, it becomes clear that someone is terrorizing her. Overtime, Ruby and Miguel start to develop feelings for each other. Love how these two end up together. Worth the read
Miguel and Ruby. I am so glad Miguel finally got a story since he has been on the outskirts of several stories since Beth’s original book! Ruby is a conundrum of a charismatic character. Her agoraphobia is an interesting twist to the stalker idea. Her danger is unclear if the why at first, but the who is fairly obvious. Their attraction and internal conflicts are entertaining and Pumpkin is a delight. It was great seeing Jason and Layla and how great they re together, but also how she can take her difficulties and use that to be so kind to others. Shane is quite the matchmaker. It was a good and quick read!
What a sweet romance. I think Miguel is such a sweetheart and he was prepared to be whatever Ruby needed, even through all her issues. I think he was exactly what Ruby needed. Someone patient and yet preserving towards her being able to take the next step. Not pushing but giving a helping hand and the positive reinforcements . It's amazing how Ruby worked through fears and tackled what she could. Fears are never easy to tackle . I admire ppl everyday who tackle theirs. There's always hope. Loved the story.
I've been anxiously awaiting Miguel's story ever since Vulnerable and April did not disappoint. Miguel is protective yet sweet, and so incredibly patient. He allows Ruby to feel safe, protected, and validated, while simultaneously allowing her to push her boundaries and heal. Ruby had a lot of trauma but I loved her friendship with the other girls from the series. I especially loved the Spanish culture peppered in throughout the book. 5 glowing stars, you'll fall in love with Miguel.
Another brilliant addition to this series. Miguel and Ruby's journey starts when Miguel is assigned to protect Ruby as her godfather fears for her safety and her father is ignoring her concerns. Due to perdonal issues Ruby fears no one believes she has a stalker. Miguel moves in to Ruby's appartment to assess what is going on, and things start to escalate more.
April Wilson's characters are very relatable and the subject matters of these characters are written in a very tasteful and informative way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love love love April Wilson’s books and stories of not only the McIntyre’s but the men and women that would for them and their friends and loved ones. This is a beautiful story of love, patience and courage. April is not afraid to tackle mental health issues in her stories, and this one is no different, Ruby has a stalker and needs someone to not only find and deal with her stalker but her crippling fear of the outside world, Miguel is just the man for the job, but will he loose his heart before he can free Ruby?
This story had some surprise twists. I have read almost all of her books. I love these stories so much that I have read a couple 3 times now. I have enjoyed getting to know the characters so much I just do not want the book to be to done. The story is about Ruby who has agoraphobia and has a stalker. She needs someone who can make her feel safe and protected. A bodyguard from McIntyre Security Is exactly Who she needs to help free her from her fears.
This story was so good. Miguel is just the gentle soul Robby needed to learn to trust in the world again. Loved how instant they connected. She knew he would keep her safe and that she was ok. Miguel has good instincts and pegged one half of the evil doers in ruby’s life right away. So horrible for ruby to learn what she did about her father. Loved how Shane rallied around Miguel and Ruby. He is an awesome boss. Love that Layla and Ruby became friends they needed another person in their corner. Great story
It is such a pleasure to read Ms. Wilson's romances. Every time I think 'well, that was the best one yet' then BOOM, she gives another great story. Miguel has been a favorite character through many other tales, it's great to see him finding his own sweet love. My heart ached for poor Ruby, but I was proud she was doing so well in spite of the tragedy she had endured. Hopefully, things will just get better and better for this couple! When an author creates characters that make you feel as if you know them, that is a wonderful thing.
This was not my type of book, too much descriptive padding with endless references to everyday food items, peeing, taking showers and brushing teeth. Would have liked more character development, it is possible for good people to be assholes sometimes. The references to Agrophobia were bland and for me demonstrated a lack of research into this crippling anxiety disorder. Disappointed as I liked her earlier books.
Omg I have loved Miguel from the very first book of Shane and Beth. I am so happy Miguel finally got is HEA. This absolutely one of the sweetest stories. Miguel is such a sweetheart and he is so patient with Ruby. My heart goes out to her to what she had been through. Thanks to Miguel he is perfect to bring her out of her shell! April you outdid yourself with this story. It was everything and so much more.
We first meet Miguel in Vulnerable and utterly fell in love with him. It's taken a long time but Finally we get to hear his story.
In true April fashion there is story and plot twist, humour, old friends and new. Ruby and Miguel are perfect for each other. As a slow burn story it works well. The detail on agrophobia is brilliant. You feel for Ruby and will be championing their romance from the start. Everyone needs a Miguel in their life.
A beautiful slow burn story of Miguel and Ruby. Miguel was definitely the correct one to protect Ruby, they are perfect for each other. We met and saw Miguel’s caring and loyal side way back in book 1 Vulnerable, so glad he finally got his HEA. I love that April Wilson always goes above and beyond with research for her books. Excellent book as always April, I’m ready for the next!
I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty great book. I really enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of determination, compassion, kindness, consideration, acceptance, believe in yourself and your worth, and also falling in love. I really enjoyed Miguel and Ruby story. I think the author did an amazing job putting these characters together. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers
This is her third book in the protectors series. It is Miguel and Ruby’s story. It is a true slow burn romance between a client and her bodyguard. Ruby has agoraphobia after she witnesses her mother being killed in a car jacking. It is a wonderful heart warming story. I can’t wait for April’s next book. I know that it will be as good as all her others.
Beautifully written and captivating. I could not put it down. Drawn into the story and felt all the emotions. I have always wanted to read Miguel's story. Such and gentleman, a sweetheart and fiercely protective. The mental health was delicately portrayed and nicely done. I love strong independent women. Loved the storyline and the book. Well done April. ❤️
What a great book. I had been looking forward to Miguel's story after meeting g him in Vulnerable, and this story certainly did not disappoint. As always, April Wilson knows how to really develop characters and make them believable. An exciting plot and a great romance! I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what this author has in store next
Loved this book April writes characters you want to follow through the story and know you will meet them again in future books. This is a slow burn love story but interspersed with danger i felt angry for the hurt caused to Ruby. April is not afraid to tackle mental health issues. Looking forward to the next book. I'm off to re-read all her other books .
Another winner for April Wilson. This book draws you in and wraps you up in the story of Ruby and Miquel. She is a woman living with a problem that requires a bodyguard and Shane has just the right msn for the job. Another story you can sink your teeth into.
This was as fantastic as the previous books that April has written. The problem is that as soon as I start reading it's hard to put down and the next thing I know, I have finished reading it. Reading the series I always knew that Miguel was a sweetheart. I can't wait for the next book in the series. 😁😉
Another best seller for me! I really appreciate that mental issues are written about with compassion and acceptance. Ruby's struggle is close to my heart. My mom was a recluse for the last coup!e years of her life. We all need a protector at times. This addressed all the feels also. Another great mcintyre book!!!
What a lovely story! Person in trouble but not being believed by her family. No spoilers but it all turns out okay. Miguel shows such patience, wish he was real! My only gripe is that now that I have read it once I need to go back and read it again! I love April's books, they have so much to say.
Ruby has agoraphobia and never leaves her apartment. Miguel is the bodyguard hired to help her while trying to determine who is sending notes, throwing ng rocks at her window and trying to terrorize her. Is it unprofessional Ilid their relationship crosses a line? Good book!
Love that April Wilson's characters are so relatable with interesting struggles uniquely crafted to add to the storyline besides the drama action laughter and a sweet sexy romance there will always be a nice twisty surprise to mix things up and add to the suspense.
