A 500-page collection of essays written by social historians in the 1980s. Not the easiest text to get through. Things that stand out is how the protracted anti-colonial struggles in Asia during the 1950s effectively broke the Western will to fight for empire, and greased the slide for 1960 Year of Africa et. al. I like the use of the term “transfer of power” over decolonization. I have other thoughts but they’re not developed or interesting enough for me to share (and I must say my reviews have been getting pretty long)
