These stories vary in tone from light, to dramatic, to suspenseful, to romantic in the literary sense of the word. The author reminds me a bit of people like O. Henry or Stephen Leacock, with perhaps a dash of Washington Irving thrown in. Given the title tale, I thought all the stories would deal with the mythological or folkloric in some way, but such was not the case. The supernatural, where it appears, is treated with humour. Relatively recent inventions also play an important part in some of the stories. Most of the pieces focus on the often rocky relationships of young friends or couples.
This is a very pleasant collection. The writing is good, the stories told in a laid-back voice. The characters are vivid and well-done. I was especially pleased with "Two-Party Line", which was likely a cutting edge story of its time, a love affair sparked by modern technology, much in the way films like You've Got Mail and She explore love at various points in the digital age.
This book is a collection of short fictional stories, none really relating to the next. It is an easy read, and the stories are pretty entertaining. Not the most memorable, but I would recommend if you’re looking for something light to read
I really enjoyed almost every one of the stories in this collection, "A Two-Party Line being my favorite, and "The Goddess of Truth" being possibly the WORST I've ever read!
