A challenging supplement to any course on the modern Welsh language, this workbook combines grammar explanations and exercise work, with an emphasis throughout on the colloquial, spoken Welsh used by modern native speakers.
I did this book after Teach Yourself Welsh Complete Course Audiopackage. I think I would recommend you do a similar welsh book before this to gain a foundation as Gareth focuses very much on colloquial welsh so I feel it helps your understanding if you have a little background information in the language first. Do not take that as a criticism however as the emphasis on spoken welsh is the best bit about the book (just once you have a little understanding) – I mean, who wants to sound like a literary professor when conversing with native speakers?!
I can say that Gareth’s books have improved my skills no end. His clear explanation makes everything a breeze and the exercises are very helpful for both letting what you have learnt sink in and checking that you haven’t misunderstood the lessons.
All welsh books by this author are fab and you won’t regret your purchase – buy it, buy it, buy it! My enthusiasm says it all really.
Mae'r llyfr 'ma'n glir, yn hawdd i'w darllen a gyda strwythur clyfar iawn. Mae'r ymarferion yn berffaith - o safon digon heriol ond ddim rhy anodd. Os fel fi, mae'r darllenwr wedi dysgu Cymraeg y De, mae'n ffordd gwych i ddod i nabod yr Iaith gogleddol. Diolch o galon i Gareth King am ei waith i ddysgwyr. Ymlaen nawr at ei lyfr nesaf, Intermediate Welsh.
This is an extremely useful book. We are using it in my Welsh class in conjunction to the course text and the exercises are very good - with clear explanations of the grammatical points for both North and South Wales.
