Here is the church and here is the steeple. Here is the market and here are the people and . . . here are the flames rising higher and higher!
A tiny sneeze, a puff of smoke, a washing line, and a major disaster! From internationally acclaimed picture book creators Mem Fox and Roland Harvey comes the enchanting tale of a little dragon's small mistake that sets his whole wide world on fire.
Merrion Frances Fox is an Australian writer of children's books and an educationalist specialising in literacy. Fox has been semi-retired since 1996, but she still gives seminars and lives in Adelaide, South Australia.
This book has lots of potential, great pictures, but they were a bit faded and too busy ... and my son found it 'boring' and he usually loves anything to do with dragons.
An iconic pairing of two titans of the Australian children's literature industry. It's a charming book, but lacks a certain magic I would have expected from this writer and illustrator team.
This is a charming book, well written and illustrated. For most authors and illustrators this would be a great achievement. To be frank, I expected more from Mem Fox and Roland Harvey - something amazing, that would blow me away and become a new favourite. This isn't spectacular, but it is an excellent book to keep a new reader entertained: Mem Fox always knows just how to put memorable words together, and in between sounding out sentences there are Roland Harvey's fantastically detailed illustrations that tell their own highly involved and funny stories.
Recommended: for children who are just about ready to read, and parents everywhere.
From the fabulous team of Mem Fox and Roland Harvey comes a delightful rhyming picture book that follows the "Here is the church and here is the steeple" rhyme that many of us remember from childhood. This book follows a charming little dragon and his one small mistake - one that sets his whole world on fire!
