And when a kidnapping takes place, not only is someone not who they seem, but vengeance is now sought for a deed over five hundred years old.

My writing explores two different corners of fantasy: the dark pull of curses and legacy in the newly revised second edition of The Sans Monte Curse and the sweeping journeys of dragon shifters in the forthcoming relaunch of my To Fly with Dragons series. Though the worlds are different, both are bound by love, determination, and the courage to face the impossible.
I’m a Christian, a wife, and a mom of four. After more than thirty years with the USPS, I retired from my role as postmaster to step fully into writing. When I’m not building worlds or editing chapters, you’ll probably find me treasure-hunting at flea markets, cheering for the Chiefs, pinning ideas on Pinterest, or wandering back roads—because sometimes the best stories begin when you take the long way home.

This book was definitely not what I was expecting. It is a heart-wrenching story of two men and their love for one woman. Bayden is her other half, her mate and Rushchon is her childhood best friend, her rock. After Esa's marriage to Bayden, Rush struggles to put on a brave face and be happy for the new couple. But as time goes by, the monster inside Rush that was always kept at bay by his love for Esa is unleashed by her rejection, and Rush's unrequited love for her soon leads to his demise. A story of heartbreak, love, and betrayal, it is not a happily ever after but it is beautiful in its own way.

First off, the story concept is fascinating!! A long-dead dragon shape shifter has found his way into the dreams and consciousness of a naive young woman named Jenabel, appealing for her help in releasing and rescuing him from his centuries-long entrapment of the grave. With the help of another youth with a magic book and a ghost and an ancient map, she and her two brothers and uncle set out to find the origin of the dragon, that only she can hear. Not only that, but an evil king has infiltrated her dreams as well. Jenabel fears that unless she can find the dragon that has been but the stuff of myths and folk stories till then, and set him free, her mind and dreams will never be hers again.
The characters are endearing and immediately captured my interest. Although a few really needed some more character development. The author sets up the imagery fairly well, as I was able to capture the scenes in my mind easily as the story unfolded.
The story starts out rather rushed though and a bit confusing on what exactly was going on. I had to actually read part of the prologue again just to understand.
I hate to be critical of any published work, but my inner editor came out in this book. Although the story was fantastic, it was a frustrating read due to the following:
1) Too many grammatical & spelling errors to count. I'm gathering this book was self-published, (I don't have anything against self-publishing, as there's many great works out there), but there was at least one or more error of some sort per page. Any writer should have the wisdom to have their work proofread and edited to death before sending it to the presses. Several sentences were punctuated as questions when they were only statements; spelling errors are a pet peeve, sorry to say, and there were too many to count. But in this day of digital tools, spell check should be used and overused when writing.
2) Section segues aren't easily differentiated; paragraphs are too close together. The chapters read as run-on paragraphs. Paragraph breaks need to occur, as well as scene breaks.
3) POVs are often confusing as it will shift from one character to another within the same paragraph which caused me to have to go back and read a couple of paragraphs prior to know who was thinking/speaking.
4) Character name changes. "Rachel", Seth's love interest in chapter 16, changed to "Rebecca" in chapter 19. I found this rather odd.
5) There was a dramatic shift in the main character, Jenabel's, demeanor and attitude after the dragon "marriage" ceremony. She went from being a somewhat independent, free-thinking young woman to a whining, simpering, pouting, frequently annoying girl. I'm not sure what caused this shift in her character, but I didn't feel good about her character by the end of the book, as I had when I began reading.
6) From that point on (see above) it almost read as a fan fiction. The plot got rushed to finish, leaving me with questions like why were so many additional characters introduced so late in the book (I'm guessing it's being set up for book two).
Although there were many grammatical issues and a couple of plot holes, I have some questions that I'd like see answered in a revised version or book two:
1) I'd like to know more about the dragon history. How did they come about? Their creation? Their responsibility as protectors of the regions? There's mention of God in this book (which I love!), so I'd like to know more how he fits into the creation of these beautiful beast/men.
2) Deagon's back story is a bit muddled. Purposeful? Will more of history be revealed?
3) A list of characters (or cast of characters) would be nice. With a lengthy array if characters it is easy to get them confused or even forget who they are if they aren't mentioned for a while. A guide or list would be nice for reference sake.
4) Perhaps a map of the regions?
Again, awesome book. Just needs a lot of work in some areas. Mrs Farquharson Scott, if you need someone to edit or proofread your work, I'm always up for the task. :)

Enter a world filled with dragons and loads of adventure!
This book really had me hooked and I hope to read more books from this author. The imagery and detail was wonderful and I felt like I was really there with everyone. This book was jammed pack with action and even had some romance which I loved.
I liked Deagon because he was really a nice guy and I could sympathize with how he felt like he didn’t belong. He has really great friends though who let him know that he isn’t alone. My favorite characters were Anhanan and Jenabel. I loved this pairing because their relationship was so sweet and you could really tell they cared for one another. I hope to see more of them in future books.
I highly recommend this book to lovers of fantasy, dragons, or to anyone who likes romance mixed with a lot of action. Check out “Chasing Dragons: Vengeance” by Barbara Farquharson Scott you won’t be disappointed!

Chasing Dragons:Vengeance by Barbara Farquharson Scott
The hope of Dragon protectors are gone from the works along with the dragons. A dismal future of capricious tyranny shackles the known world. Only the dragons and their riders have the courage and fortitude to challenge the evil that abounds but they are all dead, or are they?
Jenabel and her family dominate the story that starts with Deagon dealing with his legacy. Deagon’s only companion is an amusing ghost who with a magic book makes Deagon question his own sanity. I particularly enjoyed Jenabel’s interaction with her brothers, Oliver and Seth. Ms. Scott either closely researched sibling interaction or has an extended family as the family interaction oozed authenticity.
I think the story line and plot could be a bit more polished but as the first book in the series, it is quite good. It wraps up in a logical and satisfying manner and yet teases you with future books to complete the quest.
I recommend it.

Wow. This book is awesome! If you love dragons, fantasy, romance or all three this is the book for you. I found this book action packed, funny, sweet and most of all a fast, fun read. I've been reading a lot of fantasy lately and let me tell you this one is great. I love Jenabel she's the perfect female heroine. The only complaint I had was some of the sequences seemed rushed. I would love to have known more Dragon history. I think with some more world & history building, this novel would be the perfect dragon fantasy story. I did like the splash of romance through out the story, it made the story that much more enjoyable.
