The author has a background in scientific analysis and examines the results of thousands of studies related to plant-based nutrition. Even some recipes included. Interesting so far.
This wasn't an especially enjoyable read although there are some amusing turns of phrase in a serious book on nutrition. The approach, arising from Stephen Walsh's professional scientific process systems analysis background rather than his personal ethical stance, was interesting. There are inconvenient truths in this book.
The section on infancy was predictably poor and subsequent research on the routine deprivation of the full complement of newborn iron stores due to medical practices has superceded a lot of what is there.
You do not have to be a vegan to get a great deal from this book, but if you are a vegan it is essential reading for long term health. It is a fascinating insight into the complexities of nutrition and the interplay between nutrients, yet despite that, it is refreshingly straightforward in many ways.
This the BEST and most interestingly written dietary advice book I have seen. It will have a permanent place in my library. I had only put a bookmark in the front, setting it aside until I was ready to deal with a heavier read. But once I peeked inside, I had trouble putting it down! Written by an accomplished and pleasant man who has no one size fits all plan but LOTS of easily accessible vital information; Dr. Walsh unlocks the door without pushing you through it.
