‘You can’t just kidnap someone against their will!’
You sweet summer child, first time in Harlequin Presents?
Do you! like! exclamation points? It's time! to feast! my friend!
Jacob Sinclair, but he's known as Sin (I love HP) becomes the rescuer outside a restaurant when Luccy (I'll never let go of how it's two Cs) clings to him and pretends they know each other as she's trying to get away from a potential client turned sexual harasser. They end up going to Sin's room and having a night of wild HP sex. Luccy leaves in the morning not sure of her feelings and Sin gets in his feefees over how much he liked her and how could she just slink away?(!)
Again, because this is HP, turns out Sin is a billionaire grandson who's LLC owns the cosmetic company Luccy has a photography contract with, one that is about up. Sin also owns the hotel that Luccy was having a business meeting at and gets the name of the people who were having dinner, goes to the sexual harasser to find out more about Luccy and gets told that, well, actually, Luccy was trying to hit on him and blackmail him by saying she would tell his wife they slept together unless he hired Luccy. Sin believes this and when he finds out about Luccy's contract almost up, thinks she is going to try and blackmail him with their sleeping together to get a renewed contract with his cosmetic company. Meanwhile, Luccy doesn't even know Sin's identity. The boy needs to majorly check himself. Of course, Luccy finds herself pregnant after their first night together and Sin demands they get married because she carries The Sinclair Heir.
Anyway, typical HP squabbling, purposeful misunderstandings, and Drama and Emotion. The exclamation point usage, though, was wilding.(!)
‘Semi-skimmed milk would be healthier than full-fat, Wallace,’ Sin put in decisively. ‘And perhaps you could add some of your wholesome home-made biscuits, too. Anything else you would like, Luccy?’ he asked lightly. As an afterthought, Luccy felt sure! ‘No, you seem to have it pretty well covered,’ she answered tartly. ‘What did I do this time?’ Sin asked once the two of them were outside seated at the green marble table on the terrace, the view incredible, the air warm and clear. Her eyes flashed as she looked across at him. ‘You are going to be one of those overprotective prospective fathers!’ He gave an unapologetic shrug. ‘I just thought you should eat healthily.’ ‘I know what I have to do, Sin!’ ‘Then why are we arguing about it?’ he pointed out mildly. Luccy almost growled in frustration. ‘I thought I had already made it plain that I don’t like being told what to do.’ ‘Even when it’s in your own best interests?’ ‘Even then!’
You might say, now Whiskey, maybe one or two seem a bit unnecessary, why the pointing out? Imagine the whole story like this though!(!) I was exhausted reading this because of all the ! .(!) I eventually gave up and just deadpanned whenever the characters spoke, even if there was a ! .(!)
It takes until around the 85% mark until Sin realizes/believes that Luccy wasn't trying to blackmail him and the sexual harasser maybe wasn't a stand-up truth telling dude. Luccy also comes to the conclusion that just because her sister got pregnant young and married because of it and her marriage was bad, that Luccy isn't quite in the same situation and because she loves Sin (why tho'?(!)) it's ok to marry him. A truly all's well that ends well .(!)
"Pregnant with the Billionaire's Baby" is the story of Lucy and Sin.
Apparently, I had read this this previously, and given it 5 stars. But because I obviously had no memory of it, I decided to give it another go.
A pleasant romance between a successful photographer and a ruthless billionaire businessman. A one night stand goes awry when the heroine decides to leave the next day- but the hero knows he has not had enough. Believing that her decision to keep her identity a secret is because she has nefarious plans, he relentlessly pursues her, blackmailing her to be his woman- also because she has a hot bod and he cannot stop fantasizing about it. The heroine is supposed to be a strong and fierce woman but the hero always wins their fights, and smiles his way doing it. A bun in the oven is found, some classical "be my wife or else" drama happens, they realize they are in love, some drama is followed by confessions and we get a double bonanza HEA.
I hated the bitch annoying heroine who all she did was insult and degrade the hero and then suddenly and magically she is in love. Um, huh? Am I supposed to believe it? Awful, boring, repetitive and zero plot!
What a enjoyable read!Very exciting with fast-paced plot, sexy romance and charming characters.
‘I think it’s best for everyone, don’t you?’
A nerve pulsed in his jaw. ‘Not for me.’
‘Sin, you can’t marry me just because I’m expecting your baby. I’ve already explained to you—told you—why I can’t marry you for that reason, either,’ she reminded him shakily.
Sin reached out and grasped her arms. ‘What if I’m not asking you to marry me just because you’re pregnant?’
‘But you are—aren’t you?’ He drew in a ragged breath, knowing too much depended on his answer for him not to tell Luccy the truth. If she still turned him down afterwards—He didn’t even want to think about that!
‘I love you, Luccy,’ he rasped. ‘I love you, damn it!’ he repeated determinedly. ‘So much that the thought of you leaving—going back to England and leaving me, now or any time in the future—is killing me!’
Like all books by Carole,i didn`t want to put this one down. The arguing between the arrogant tyccon Sin Sinclair and the self-made photograher Luccy O`Neil and the hot chemistry between them was so entertaining, and it was so humble of Sin that in the end be selfless and accept the choice of what the woman he loves wants.
This is a mediocre book by an author who I feel has written some excellent books in her time. I think the whole set up was underwhelming. I have always felt the scenario of falling into bed together shortly after meeting due to an ungovernable attraction a hard one to pull off. Not an auspicious start to a true love story, in my opinion. I can't see why Luccy was so compelled to allow Sin to jump her bones. Especially for a woman who was so cautious about men and circumspect in her love life. Yeah, he was good-looking and he helped her in an awkward situation, but she should have listened to the voice that said, 'Go back to your room.' Of course, if she did, the book would have ended a lot sooner.
Sin's arrogance is a strike against him for me. He thinks the world is his oyster. Admittedly as the only son of a billionaire empire, maybe it is. However, he has the flaw of being unable to conceive that a woman could want him for himself, and that she could be a legitimate businesswoman who would get by on skills and competence as a photographer, instead of coercing clients into contracting her services with her sexuality and lies. Highly insulting. And to make it worse, Luccy downplayed herself as a secretary as if she was ashamed of the fact that she was a self-made businesswoman. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
You wonder sometimes how a person can believe that someone wants you when they act like they hold you in perfect contempt. Of course, you don't want them in your life, or want to open up to them, or 'gasp!' be intimate with them. Of course, your dreaded hormones act against you. I didn't root for Sin to win over Luccy at all. I kept thinking she should just go back to England. He wasn't worth her time or energy. I'm not entirely sure that his declaration of love at the end had much of an effect on me. Good thing they have a happy epilogue at the end.
Probably being too hard on this book. But that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. For me, three stars is a rating for a book with serious flaws, but it wasn't a bad book. Definitely could have been better though.
After one sizzling night together the heroine creeps out of the heroes room. Only for him to track her down and find out she was pregnant. He tries forcing her into a marriage that she doesn't want to the point where she is absolutely unhappy. Then when you think things can't get any worse, the villain stick his nose into it and says the baby are his. With no trust and the hero not showing her any love, she decides to leave. Only for the hero to find out the truth and begging her back.
I hated both these characters and was mildly encouraged that they seemed to feel the same way about each other. Then suddenly - they're in love. Um, huh? Awful!
The story focuses on billionaire Jacob ‘(Sin) Sinclair’s and photographer Luccy O’Neill. Their instant chemistry leads to a night of passion, one that shocks Luccy and leads to her making a quick exist – one Sin in no way expected. Fast forward to months, and Sin is under the mistaken assumption Luccy targeted him specifically to gain a leg up the career ladder, so when he realises, she is pregnant well he is anything but charming.
Sin is quite obtuse for quite a while, determined to think badly of Luccy despite all the evidence to the contrary.
A fluffy mills and boon modern romance. I’ve read and really enjoyed some of the author’s books, comparatively I would say this is an ok, easy read – good when you need to help unwind, slow the brain down.
Normally, I love HP books. They're fast-paced and I can read them in one day. Carole Mortimer has been writing for years, and I usually like her stories. I like them enough that I ignore her odd overuse of exclamation points throughout her books.
This one didn't quite do it for me, though. The main problem is that the hero and heroine argued constantly. Half the time, I didn't know why they were fighting. It seemed to be just a way to keep them apart. As the story wore on, it grew harder to finish.
I did like Jacob's character. It was obvious he really cared for Luccy, although he couldn't show her when she made it clear she didn't want anything to do with him even though she was pregnant.
Poor guy. I could tell he got tired of the constant bickering, too. :)
Jacob "Sin" Sinclair's one night with prim Luccy ended with an unexpected twist: she left him in the early hours of the morning, without a word! Luccy was overawed by the sinful billionaire's luxury penthouse. Her cheeks still burn when she thinks of how she succumbed to one night of exquisite pleasure. But her shame is only heightened when she discovers she's expecting Sin's baby! Sin wastes no time in tracking her down. The Sinclair heir, inheritor to his billions, will not be illegitimate!
Carole Mortimer is an author I will definitely pick up.
Opens very promisingly when the Heroine - Luccy is inspired to use the hero - Sin, who's a stranger to her in a bid to evade the advances of a client. Sin takes Luccy to his Suite in order to administer her a restorative brandy and ... passion overtakes them.
Then comes the misunderstanding. I didn't like that Sin was so ready to believe the creepy client but did not even think of asking Luccy for an explanation. That's why this book gets 3 stars instead of 4.
Liked this dialogue
She gave a dismissive laugh. 'I don't believe I've ever met anyone else who has believed me capable of blackmail-let alone actually accused me of it!' Her voice had hardened over the last words, her eyes glittering angrily as she looked at him in furious challenge.
The dawning realisation that Luccy could be pregnant -
Sin looked at her searchingly, easily noting the changes in her now that he knew what he was looking for: there were dark shadows beneath those bewitching blue eyes that indicated a lack of sleep, her cheeks were more hollow than they had been, and there were lines of tension beside her unsmiling mouth. His gaze moved lower. She was still incredibly slender, but he was sure that her breasts were slightly fuller than he remembered... He wasn't wrong in his conclusion, Sin was sure that he wasn't! He had spent the time while Luccy was in the bathroom considering all the options-including that she might have eaten something that disagreed with her. But the more obvious reason for her sudden nausea was the one that refused to go away...
Just loved the Butler Wallace. The turning point was when Wallace tells Luccy about his past and his tragic loss of his wife and unborn child. Sin happens to overhear the conversation and starts thinking that maybe he could be wrong.
I liked Jacob Sinclair Senior's forthright manner. I was desperately waiting for Paul Bridger's (the swine) comeuppance, which sadly didn't happen. Sin is just so sinful, so charming, so caring. Disillusioned by her sister's failed marriage, which was rushed since she was pregnant at eighteen, a similar situation which Luccy finds herself in (though not a teen), she doesn't agree to marriage without love. Read about an American hero after a long time, most of M&B heroes are European otherwise. Luccy and Sin, their names may be interesting, but the story was bland, a bit odd.
It was an okay read for me. I found the story predictable, but I was interested enough to see the details get filled in. And though I don't usually like the Push and pull kind of relationship, I guess it was essential for this book. And although I admired Lucy because she didn't give in easily and gave as good as she got, there are times I want to shake her for being a wishy-washy and dense heroine.
Jacob "Sin" Sinclair's and Luccy had one night together where they did not exchange last names. He was able to find her but refused to believe that their meeting was not deliberate on her part.
Steamroller H who uses his charm and money to get his way. His unrelenting pursuit of the heroine can be perceived as less than charming (and not appropriate) if the H’s internal monologue didn’t reveal that he’s not a total creep, just a rich guy who can’t stop won’t stop. Nothing crazy about this one except for a guy who doesn’t understand the word no.
What happens when two stubborn people meet and are instantly attracted to each other? Pregnant with the Billionaire’s Baby is what. These two butted heads, each refusing to give in, so much so it made me cry. Well worth the tears.
Way too much arguing…there needed to be more context centered around their interactions other than constant disagreement over virtually everything. Every relationship needs some spice to keep it interesting but this was way too much.
