Lying in Bed

Rate this book
Morton Dauwen Zabel Award, American Academy of Arts and Letters. LYING IN BED begins with the voice of a strange, compelling speaker. The more we learn of his life and his most unusual marriage, the less we are sure of who he is and what he says. LYING IN BED first seduces us with its intense storytelling, then ensnares us in a dangerous psychological and erotic labyrinth we never want to leave.

I love how this one is mixture of a suspense thriller and a romantic comedy. It's twisted and dark and filled with bizarre scenes and it's a page turner. This is what happens when Nicholson Baker stays up past his bedtime with too many faded photographs and much too much scotch.

I had to reread the last half of the novel twice in order to make sure I didn't miss any details. It should also be noted I learn the most useful masturbation technique "The Stranger" from this novel.

Psychological non-thriller about self-understanding in the context of a relationship. Curiously unreal characters but some interesting perspectives about blitzkrieg intimacy. Painless reading and a bit of a plot make this story interesting. No revelation nor epiphany appended.

this book was confusing, but the author did a very good job of encompassing the voice of the main character through the use of language that was fitting of a prson who studies rhetoric
