It felt good to read stories that were told to generations before and see some classic phrases and characters I recognize from mentions in passing irl. These stories included most that did not originate from Puerto Rico, which you can tell from the occasional inclusions of princesses, kings, lions and tigers. It was a bit of a bummer at times that most were borrowed from someplace else, making them feel unfamiliar, but ultimately it is very fitting for our culture that we always have mixes of various places, mainly Africa and Spain. It's cool that these were passed around and retold and are now part of our stories as well. It was also neat spotting motifs from many fairtales, like riddles and things coming in threes.
