Securing a location for his family's chain of sweet shops is big-city businessman Danny Graham's secret mission. But Grandma Mary's Candies will mean the end of Megan Russo's little shop—and the end of her dreams. How can Danny put a quaint, small-town candy shop out of business? Especially one owned by a kind young woman who's lost too much already? Still, here he is, trying to romance his sweet rival…although Megan doesn't know who he really is. Seems like Danny needs to look into his own heart and discover what matters most.
Multi-published, award-winning, bestselling author Ruth Logan Herne is living her dream of being a published author and having the time of her life doing it. Born to a poor family in Rochester, NY, Ruthy draws on her early years and her many years of dealing with today's young families and businesses to create beautiful, heartfelt small-town stories of faith, hope and love... while adopting her favorite non-Scripture quotes "Plenty of time for rest in the grave" (Ben Franklin) and "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." (Eleanor Roosevelt) and one can always depend on Yoda "There is no try. There is do or do not." Succinct... and true. :) She loves chatting with readers on facebook at Ruth Logan Herne or follow Ruthy on Twitter, visit her website or stop by Seekerville (www.seekerville.blogspot.com) or pop by the Yankee Belle Cafe where Ruthy and several lovely authors share recipes, facts, photos and just plain old life! SMALL TOWN HEARTS is the second book in the Men of Allegany County series. It is a sweet small town story of opposites attract and I was instantly swept away in this beautiful story of Megan and Danny. Megan is leery of Danny and all his charm. She has been left at the alter twice now and she has put up a huge wall around her heart. Megan owns the local candy store and Danny's family owns a huge candy business. Danny doesn't tell Megan who he is at first and you can imagine how she feels when she finds out who he is and why he is in town! Hang on to your seats, it's going to get crazy!!
I read SMALL TOWN HEARTS fairly quickly and was quickly emotionally invested in all of the characters and their troubles. Ruth Logan Herne is a local author and I'm devouring her book list. Her writing always makes me happy and fills my heart with wonderful stories that I just can't get enough of. Her characters are never perfect, have flaws and troubles, and always make me feel as if I have known them on a personal level for years. They face huge challenges and I am always cheering for them to get through their struggles and find their happy place. SMALL TOWN HEARTS is filled with so many emotions and feelings and you can't help but have your heart strings pulled as you fall in love with this small town and all of the sweet and wonderful people who live there. Ruthy Herne sure knows how to make her readers hearts swoon and I for one, can not wait to continue this series!
I always love to read Ruthy`s books because they are Christian romance novels, with surprise endings. Right always throwback words which challenge my vocabulary. I am able to relate to the settings because I was born and raised in Western New York. I feel that this book is geared to women of all ages.
This is the second in the Men of Allegany county series. Another good read. I had read the first book when I realised I didn't have the 3rd book. So I decided to wait till I had it to read the next 3 books at the same time. this book features megan who runs a candy store and Danny who's family run a candy business. He is in town to find a venue for a tribute store and runs into Megan and her mentally challenged brother, Ben. Ben is fun and maybe an adult but has the thinking of a child and the same mischief. Megan is passionate about her shop and how she makes the candies and has built up a good business which Danny may destroy. Megan has also had some bad relationships and is not looking for a relationship of any kind. I really loved Megan and her work ethic, the way she could make the candies (I wish I could but candy making and I equal disaster). I also love the way she cares for Ben. Danny is also interesting, he gets on well with Ben and treats him with respect and also sees things from a different perspective. The problems start when his reason for being in the area are found out. It is interesting how sometimes instead of talking with a person to get all the facts and letting them answer we often only hear enough to convince us we know the whole story. Where in effect its is not always the case. With Megan this is the case she is so use to being used she hears only part of the story. This is a good book.
When I began reading Small-Town Hearts, I was quickly pulled into the story . . . and I found myself wishing I could smack Danny Graham! Who does he think he is, coming into town, buying up property for a new candy store, when he knows his family’s chain store will put Megan — and her sweet, quaint store — out of business!
Well, at least she plays it cool . . . a little.
I can’t say more, or I might give away too much of the story — and I don’t do spoilers!
So what you need to do now is get a copy to read — matter of fact, if I were you, I’d just get the whole series and read one right after another, until you’re done!
Ruth Logan Herne is most definitely one of my favorite authors . . . and I’m looking forward to meeting her someday. She writes books that are full of inspiring, lovable characters, who grab your interest — and don’t let go until the end.
A nice romance set in small-town U.S.A. It's along the lines of the movies "The Shop Around the Corner" and "You've Got Mail." Danny is the heir to a large chain of candy stores and Megan struggles to make ends meet in her little candy shop. When he decides to scope a new location for his grandmother's business and meets feisty Megan, he gets more than he bargained for. It's a fun romp and my favorite part?! The fudge recipe at the end! I haven't made it yet... but I will!
What a sweet story! And it has Ruthy written all over it which made it even more endearing to me. I love that there was conflict, but it wasn't over the top. I love the conflict the heroine experienced between fighting her feelings and yet acting the opposite much of the time. So realistic. Great job, Ruthy! Thanks for the sweet read. :D
Caution: When reading this book you may gain wait. The candy story owners life was so well described it made me hungry. Ruthy is a wonderful person and it shows through her writing.
It's so nice to read a good, clean romance that takes place down the road a piece. I feel like I can drive down I86 and drop in for a good piece of chocolate.
