Borrowed from a co-worker, had this laying around in the office. Started reading out of curiosity but end up getting hooked. Strangely, I got mad when people disturb me while I was solving the puzzles, even though I read this in office lol

Agent Arthur on the Stormy Seas is one of the Usborne Puzzle Adventures books. I used to read ones like this when I was younger and when I found out they were at my library, I wanted to relive the nostalgia! I don't remember if I read this one or not. If I had, I probably would have liked it even less at that time.

Arthur is the youngest member of the Action Agency, and this time he is going to investigate ships and their crew which have gone missing. There ends up being some pirate action and they are marooned on an island, as well as creeping around. The story was quite interesting, but the way the puzzles were executed was not.

There were far too many "codes" to work out, I just couldn't be bothered, they were too long. They wanted you to substitute symbols for letters, read words backwards in the wrong order, read them backwards with their first letters switched, and all sorts. I just gave up. Maybe it's just me, and if I had been more interested I might have got out a pen and paper and worked it out, but it just didn't feel easy enough. I worked out everything else in the books - mazes, recognising things, knowing where the buried treasure was, and so on - but it just wasn't fun enough. It felt like they wanted you to work hard for your enjoyment but there were too many codes to crack and I just looked at the answers at the back.

An agent battles pirates.

I thought this story was good and the format, with embedded puzzle‎s, was interesting.
