Una historia, sencilla pero entrañable que acompañada de un precioso dibujo permite a los más pequeños de la casa aprender de forma divertida un lección de cortesía.
You Can't Move a HippoMichael Catchpool This is a wonderful story with an unexpected ending. The book has many different types of jungle animals wanting to cross a bridge. The problem is that there is a Hippo sleeping on the bridge and they can't cross. The animals try different ways to get the hippo to move and they are not very nice about it! But the hippo just keeps napping. In the end a little mouse very politely asks the hippo to move and he does. This book keeps the students interest and keeps them guessing what is going to happen. The illustrations are soft and sweet. My students love animal story! The fact that they can interact and guess what is going to happen each time an animal has an idea of how to move the hippo is wonderful! The ideas to move the hippo are funny. The book has a great message about using manners. This is a good example of what you can accomplish with manners! I think this book is good for young readers my preschool students ages three to five really enjoyed it. This picture book is good for ages 2-5.
This story is about a hippo who is sleeping in the middle of the bridge. The lion, monkey, and warthog want him to move so they try all these things but he would not, just like the parrot said. Then a mouse comes along and asks him politely to move and then the hippo does. The words were pretty easy but there were some words that would be hard for beginning readers. The story itself used lots of descriptive words for the characters and places. The action words and words that were stressed were larger, bolder, and in a different font to make them stand out which was fun. The illustrations were colorful and fun and made 'scary' animals like a lion very cute. I thought the story was very fun and cute and had great meaning behind the moral of the story.
a well-written, beautifully illustrated picture book. A hippo is blocking the way over a bridge and everybody tries to move it. The attempts are very funny and the little lesson about manners in the end is not too schoolmasterly. This book is great to be read in different voices. My three year old enjoyed it very much.
This is such a good book. It would be great to teach kids about manners because the animals try everything to move the hippo, but he just won't move. Finally, the little mouse comes along and simply says please and the hippo moves out of the way. The book is also loaded with adjectives and verbs, so it would be great to teach both.
I love this book. The story teaches about manners but not in a preachy way. I didn't even realize that I was being taught, it is such a good story. Now I know what to say to a hippo when it is asleep on a bridge. I recommend it to everyone!
This is a great book to read about manners and speaking respectfully! You could also use this book for a lesson on verbs! Overall, it's a really funny book and it's very engaging for young readers. Great for students grades K-2.
The only bad thing I have to say about this children's book is that the ending is somewhat abrupt. Otherwise, it's fantastic: gorgeously illustrated, and with a well-told story (that my soon-to-be 3 year-old LOVES) that has an excellent message. A great addition to any child's library.
A new book club purchase about a stubborn hippo and the strategies various animals try to get him to move out of their way. Some complex vocabulary and beautiful illustrations.
