Chosen from the Gospels of Matthew and John, these 365 readings encourage us to remove ourselves from our hectic, day-to-day pace and pray with the natural, comforting rhythms of Jesus' own teachings. By slowing down and opening ourselves to the expansiveness of his words and stories, we become his apprentices. As we observe and listen to our master, we learn to pray regularly and frequently, as he himself prayed. Through this prayerful apprenticeship, we can discover a new world of companionship with Jesus, "a world in which repetitions deepen into intimacies and a long silence is as eloquent as a sonnet."

I journeyed through this book over the course of 2021, reading a small section of Matthew and then John each day, followed by a short meditation and prayer from Peterson. It was great to step back and really really focus on Jesus and his time here. Highly recommended for those looking to simplify their devotional life or add in a short burst each day.
I like to concept of this devotional. It should be a slow, in depth reading focusing on just two gospels, a few verses at a time. While I enjoyed the connections it made to self examination, hymns, and the prayers it contained, it was pretty shallow.
my favorite book, this was given to me by my daughter when she was in 8th Grade, so that's many many years ago and its still my favorite devotional book today !!
