Level: Primary – Intermediate (only 32 pages but a lot of intense information)
Rationale: Natalie seems very interested in the country of Russia—she mentions it in both a place she could “transport (her)self to” and a place she “could on a trip to”. Since I’m not sure the origin of her interest or how much she already knows about Russia, this book offers a wide variety of information about the land, people, wildlife, language, food, daily life, fun facts, and more. This is something Natalie could peruse and read what interests her most and/or what she doesn’t already know, but it’s also a book she could read from cover to cover and gain and even more in-depth understanding of this country that interests her so much.
Hook: Have you ever wondered what Russian people eat for supper? Or do for fun? Have you ever wanted to learn some Russian words, how to say them, and what they mean? The book entitled Russia: Exploring Countries has all this and more! This book is full of cool information about the Russian land, people, wildlife, language, food, daily life, fun facts, just to name a few. And this book includes lots of great photos to help you picture each piece of Russia they explore!

It was interesting and I didn't realize there were leopards in Russia. I always figured it was freezing cold and the animal population wasn't big. But they have animals such as the Baikal seal, Siberian tiger, polar bears, and the pika (a rodent). They have cities just like we do, and about 73% of people live in cities, while 27% live in the countryside. Those who live in the country are usually farmers, but some have a place in the city, and a place in the county to go and relax. This book tells of some if the Russian holidays. The only negative thing is that if you didn't know a word, for example, caviar (fish eggs) you had to go to the back of the book and look in the glossary.
