Understanding the secret code of illness and health Many doctors overlook the seemingly inexplicable tragedies and recoveries that happen in hospitals every day, opting to view them simply as aberrations from the medical norm. In this book, Dr. Marc Siegel draws from his decades of experience treating patients and explores the sometimes miraculous effects that the spirit and emotion can have on disease and healing. The inner pulse is the essence that links the soul to the mind and body, the marker that predicts whether a person's life force is fading or strengthening. This book shows you how to tap into your inner pulse and even how to influence it.Explores how your inner pulse can alert you to what is going on in your bodyOffers a new perspective on the positive and negative effects of the mind on illness and healingIncludes dramatic case stories of Dr. Siegel's work with his own patients?those who have healed and those who have notExploring the uncanny world where expectation and outcome are driven by a patient's personal intuition, this book will give you a deeper understanding of how the mind relates to disease and how the mind and the body working in sync can help heal.
“Interpretations of the inner pulse and its manifestations depend entirely on perspective. For some it is religious, for others it is mystical, and for still others it represents a sophisticated science that has yet to be discovered.”
Studying a health science course mold you to develop your clinical eyes to aid your patients toward wellness. It is always highlighted to gather both subjective and objective data and to listen carefully to your client’s concerns. Clinical exposures opened my eyes to the diversity of diseases as well as the different approaches each patient does to combat their illnesses. I personally believe that those “approaches” have a huge contribution to the client’s battle with the disease.
Siegel shared his encounters with different patients, including the terminal ones, and how they overcame their battles. It was interesting to read because it is the point of view of a physician whom we believed knows all in terms of our health. Siegel believes that Science cannot provide us with all the answers and that patients have control over their holistic well-being by just listening to their inner pulse as manifested by the subjects in his book.
This book was interesting to read because there are a lot of interesting stories and medical terms, yet as it progresses boredom might strike because of how the stories are somehow connected and have in common. Overall, it was a good read especially if you are in the medical field because it will trigger your curiosity and will somehow anchor you to the fact that you are not the best in the room, yet you can be your best self who acts with empathy and looks for the answers.
The book was OK. It was made up of short stories about different people Marc had treated or worked with during his career. It was somewhat interesting at best. The format was an audio book and I believe I would not have completed the book if I had tried to read it (Kindle or paper).
So far, very good. I spent the first half of my adult life in medicine, and now I am a priest/pastor. I'm approaching this book from both perspectives.
