I tend to focus heavily on "serious" poetry, and leave out whimsical and funny poems altogether. This teacher-friendly book was easy to follow and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and show students the lighter side of poetry. Through model poems, step by step directions, and samples for students to try on their own first before venturing out on their own, Janeczko has thought of it all. I particularly liked his inclusion of the writer's notebook, carefully including the entire writer's process, and working with partners. The book is so full of ideas, that I will have a hard time whittling them down to just a few to tuck into the month.
