Jewellery-makers will learn how to tie decorative knots from across the world with this stylish directory. Clear diagrams are teamed with step-by-step instructions to make tying 75 different knots simple. And each knot is graded so even complete beginners can get started straight away. Ten projects will inspire readers to create beautiful and original jewellery. Combine ornamental knots with beads for a modern look, or choose a more traditional style with entirely knot-built pieces. With detailed material lists and photography of finished items, this book is the complete guide to a unique style. Also containing a comprehensive techniques section, 75 Decorative Knots shows how to use jump rings and seal cords correctly. This practical know-how will be invaluable as readers progress to designing and creating their own knotted jewellery.
This is an awesome reference book of ornamental knots. After a brief technique introduction, there is a visual index. Then, each knot takes up a single page, with easy-to-follow visual instructions. Best of all, the authors don't waste half the book on projects, but rather give just 8 to demonstrate how to integrate the knots into complete pieces. (Still, I'd have been even happier to have had those pages – as well as the introductory ones on working with jewelry findings – reclaimed in order to include even more knots!) Great reference book.
This is an amazing book that demonstrates the art of knotting.
75 knots and ten projects which are showcased, each with simple written and visual instructions that are easy to follow. Cord, leather and even embroidery thread can be knotted in order to achieve a pretty and decorative piece of jewellery or an embellishment.
I adored the Heart knot, Some of the knots are intricate, others are much simpler, but each of them are beautiful.
The colours and ideas for the project are designed to include jump rings, beads and a whole range of other materials to enhance your creation.
The projects are both contemporary and traditional so there is something for everyone and the knotting techniques are made simple for even a beginner.
I liked that this book incorporated knots from varying traditions. The instructions and photos are helpful. My main criticism is that there is limited talk about how to build a piece out of multiple simpler knots. Lydia Chen's books are more helpful for that sort of thing.
I really enjoyed this book. Such a great find at the library. Can't wait to get to the craft store and try to make some of these. Never realized how much hard work went into making these.
