Wombat drives the ute through the Aussie bush, collecting Aussie animals along the way. The ute looks big, but is packed full of animals by the time it arrives at the Aussie Bush Bash! But first it must traverse the varied terrain, from coastal cliffs to mountain peaks and valleys, outback landscapes and leafy rainforests.
A wonderful exploration of Australian animals and landscapes, combined with a familiar theme. Sure to be a favourite!
As a primary school teacher, I try to keep an eye out for books for my younger students. A lot of Australian picture books published in the last 10-15 years aren't great (although I guess that depends on what you're looking for).
This one is pretty decent. It's a straight replacement-lyric song, but the new lyrics for some verses are quite well-chosen, requiring some linguistic sophistication from the students. It touches on a few Vic Curriculum Level 1 achievement standards; if a Level 1 can read this, it'd give their teacher a good sense of where their reading level is without much additional assessment.
“Join Wombat as he collects passengers including munching koalas and hopping kangaroos, hissing snakes, bobbing emus and more, on their way to the Aussie bush bash.”
I love this great Australian take on the classic - and my absolute favourite - children’s “The Wheels on the Bus.”
a great array of Australian wildlife are integrated into the story, along with the great Aussie Ute. It’s a fun read, with some beautiful illustrations to boot.
