9/11 ushered in an era of permanent war, rule-by-fear, illegal torture, and indefinite detentions - all justified by an attack that the Bush administration claimed was a complete surprise. But in 2001, indie publisher Sander Hicks had a unique position from which to cast a hard look at the official story. Based on four years of original research and reporting, The Big 9/11, the Whistle-Blowers and the Cover-Up provides a new level of proof that Bush's advisors had detailed foreknowledge of 9/11.
Investigative journalist and independent publisher Sander Hicks (who is also the author of 'Slingshot to the Juggernaut: Total Resistance to Secrecy' and 'War is Total Love for the Truth') describes this 2005 book as "a history from below, built on the cornerstone of the eyewitness testimony of working-class spies, researchers and witnesses... I wrote this book because I admire the info-war street fighters who have everything to lose by talking about their experiences... They speak out anyway. Meanwhile, the ruling class strategists have everything to lose by their real histories being reported."
He asserts that "it's increasingly clear that 9/11 was allowed to happen. 9/11 shows a pathetic desperation on the part of the powerful. They must know their system is in deep crisis ... The extreme nationalism and mass approval for war that 9/11 ushered in is the last resort of a class of rulers determined to divert the power of the people away from our own self-emancipation." (Pg. 151)
He concludes, "The 'Big Wedding' was a code word for 9/11 used by some of the terrorists. But 9/11 could actually be a big wedding, between reality and the future, between a time of deceit and a time of truth, a time of permanent war, and the time for war to end permanently." (Pg. 153-154)
Fans of modern "gonzo journalism" will probably like this irreverent take on 9/11 and the associated politics of it.
