Just finished reading this book written by a local author and thoroughly enjoyed the story. It's chock-full of local history (some of which I wasn't aware of) and later on in the story, delves into WWII, as 2 of the main characters valiantly fought in, one in the Pacific Theater and the other on D-Day in Normandy. It touches on the great sacrifices of the small town of Bedford, Virginia. I loved every character, especially Reverend Hezekiah. It's a wonderful read, especially for Central Virginia natives.
Historical fiction - focused on southern VA from the Depression through WWII and centered around the childhood, teen and early twenties years of a girl and two boys who grow up together. It's a sweet novel that incorporates faith and struggle and friendship. The ending leaves something to be desired-tho one could say it reflects the realities of life.
