All sorts of weird things start to happen when Aunt Wendy arrives at Moonlight Mansion. Sara and Michael's long-lost aunt is certainly strange - so strange, the children nickname her Aunt Weird.
Aunt Weird is the fourth installment of the House of Horrors series and the first to be written by Lloyd Alan. The change in author seems to have brought about a change in tone. Aunt Weird felt a little bit more grim than the previous three stories. It took me a moment to figure out why. The doppelganger in the first book seems to have some sort of intelligence but behaves more mischievously than evil. The witch's ring in book two doesn't seem to be particularly intelligent, it's only goal is to reform a body but it tends to go about that in a mindless way. The creepers of book three were just dumb animals, very dangerous, very persistent, but animals. Aunt Weird is intelligent and malicious. The threatens the kids with bodily harm and behaves in a very sinister manner. Aunt Weird was almost too human and that made her very unnerving. Once again it drives me bonkers that there's not more explanation to the strange things that happen in Moonlight Manor, but I'm beginning to develop my own head cannon and I'm tempted to use it myself.
