Blood Brotherhood

Rate this book
On December 1, 1950, during the heart of the Korean War, Lieutenant Everett Donovan awakens in a mortar crater behind enemy lines. During the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, a mine explosion has killed his entire platoon of U.S. Marines. Shaken and shivering from the subzero temps, the lieutenant struggles to his feet and stands among the bodies of his fellow Devil Dogs. Suddenly, a shot rings out! Donovan falls to his knees and when he looks up, he's face to face with his Korean counterpart. Both men know the standoff will end in brotherhood or blood . . . and neither choice will come easy.

Did you ever wondered how the korean war was back then? Did you ever think your enemy could become friends? Did you think two soldiers fighting each other, then become friends ever happened? The story's genre is historical fiction. From my opinion, this story sets a mood to it. A point where you are feeling how the characters are feeling or reacting. This reveiw has no spoiler alerts.

The setting of the story is in the snow caps of northern Korea. Everett Donovan wanted to get back to base after waking up from a brutal fight, but when he was half way there, a korean soldier shot him, so a few hours went by from waking up again from being shot. Then the korean soldier sealed his wound and handed him some water and was treaating him fairly. The conflict of the story is person vs. person.About the korean soldier, he is 100% korean, but he can speak english, so Donovan can understand him. Donovan is a U.S. soldier and that he is basically a lucky guy because in the fight all other men of his team were dead, but himself.

In my opinion, I would say that this book is good for anyone to know what it was like to be in the war, but all this you would read is fake, it never happened, it's only to give an idea. I was surprised when Donovan got shot and fainted. My reasons for the two opinions (sorry I had lost the sheet at home, couldn't remember what was on the sheet) are because if anyone is into gaming so much like call of duty and yet think it's easy to be at war, well read the book and compare it to the army today, it's not easy. I can compare this to another book in the bloodlines series because every book in the series has started back at WW2 to mini wars in afganistan. I can compare this book to myself by how hard i is to be at war, when at home, I'm having a hard time in school with grades and keeping them up. I can compare this book to the world by the wars we came to through out the years. The book is the same as to the other books in the series because the first names are all different, but the last names are the same with "Donovan", they're just based on the biggest wars we've been through. In my life, it's hard becuase in school I'm trying my best to keep up the grades and at the same time I'm trying to keep the friends I have because in my other school I went to, I lost all my friends by a new kid that came to school and told a lie causing to lose every friend I've ever had and I had almost 50 friends, because of that I lost everyone I had and everyone hated me ever since, that's why I'm trying to keep it together so it won't happen again.

Overall I liked the book, it even kept me thinking I should make similar stories. I would rate this book 8 out of 10 because the story is good but it's a little short but gives enough detail to get a picture in your head. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10 because this book has pictures so it would reveal some inappropriate illustrations. So, if anyone would like to read this book feel free to do so and to remember in those who fought and still fighting for our freedom.

Recommended for gr. 5-9. Reluctant readers, particularly boys, will probably like this mix of graphic novel-like illustrations, low-level text, and video game-like "debriefing" pages, which provide the reader with facts about the Korean war and various military equipment and weapons. It is a war story, so violence is expected. Based on the experience of a real American soldier, whose family tree is included at the end of the book. Other books in the series are based on other family members who served in various wars.

I think this will be a very good historical fiction series, especially for the boys in our library that are so interested in the military. I did find two errors in the book. On page 38, near the bottom, there is an unnecessary word (at) in the sentence beginning, "We're all going to meet...." Also, in the casualty statistics on page 80, the UN Allies are listed with casualties of 16,0000. Perhaps the author meant 160,000.

This contains a mixture of facts about the Korean War and a story concerning enemies helping each other.

I found the historical details really interesting but I thought the story (and associated graphics) was a bit too simplistic.

This book is full of action. If you like the army and war then read this book and the rest of the series. In this book and the other ones you will find information about the guns, equipment, and vehicles used in the time period it was used. Also it is about one family history in war.

I liked this. It was a good story. I liked the "betrayal" of the Korean solider to help someone in need.
