Offering rich insights into what Asperger’s is actually like for the child, this compassionate book will empower parents and teachers, and enable them to nurture the child’s strengths and work towards a happy and promising future. The book is packed with strategies, insights, and points to remember in order to address common areas of difficulty, including creating a safe space, quieting sensory overload, quelling anxiety, connecting to feelings, promoting friendship, and feeding creativity. Indeed, a primer for a complete newbie: for the first two thirds of the book, the author simply reminds the reader that the child is a person (just like the reader) and should be treated as such (as equal) even if expectations need to be adjusted for age, size, etc. The rest, however, is most pertinent to the condition. A good start. A good read.
Really beautiful compassionate book about living with and teaching aspie kids. Makes me love my strange and aspie child all the more. I own this one which is good cause I will need to read it again.
