Beyond the Mirror: Unveiling True Beauty

Rate this book
When our husband's porn addictions come out into the open it completely destroys our trust and security, not to mention our self-esteem. It's tough to find the broken pieces of our marriage and heart, much less put them back together.

Beyond the Mirror defines true beauty -- beauty that transcends time and reflects the character of Jesus Christ vs. the counterfeit beauty that leads women down a path of endless striving. Ashley Weis relates to readers and challenges each of us to break the glass of our own reflections and discover the joy and freedom that is waiting beyond the mirror.

Women who want to learn how to find the beauty in the storm and feel content in who God made them to be, this book is dedicated to you.

After recently enduring the effects of my husbands porn addiction, Beyond the Mirror has been like nourishment to my starving soul. Ashley Weis has been through this battle and knows how much pain and insecurity it causes. She urges us wives to stop looking to our husbands, the world or even ourselves to define our beauty or self worth. This world's view of beauty is so distorted that it will never make us feel good enough. We need only to look to Jesus and rest in his love, knowing that He values us beyond measure. If you are hurting after discovering your husbands secret addiction, I encourage you to read this book.
I think Beyond the Mirror can even be beneficial to single or engaged women. Before I got married (or even met my husband) I was still struggling with extreme insecurities. I wish I knew about Beyond the Mirror before my wedding because I feel like it would have helped "prepare" my heart for marriage. It would have helped remind me that I can't only rely on my husband. No matter how much he loves me, he will let me down, just like I will let him down - because we are both human.
Jesus is all we really need in this life and we should be content in His grace and love. Don't ever let this world define your beauty... look beyond the mirror and look to Jesus - that is where true beauty lies.

I won this book through a giveaway.

I didn't realize it was a Christian themed memoir. I was under the impression it was a fictional novel.

While I don't personally believe and agree with the views of the author, I'm not going to rate this book badly because of that. I'm sure there are individuals who would find this book far more useful then I did.

So proud of this girl for opening up her heart and life on this level. I wish I had a recourse like this when I went through what she did. It would have made a world of difference to know that I was not alone. Even after all these years, it was amazing to read my own thoughts and feelings coming out of someone else.

Ridiculously moralistic and biased towards the religious right, this book is difficult to read because of the judging and somewhat hysterical tone. I put it down partway through and sent it to my local used bookstore so maybe someone whose beliefs are more in line with the author's can perhaps appreciate it.
