This review is a little different from the reviews I usually do. You can see the explanation on the blog:

Kayla's review of Vampire and Plain Terror sections:
At first, I thought Cuentos was going to start out as a young adult short story book. Wow, was I wrong! The first story about the boy collecting cans seems like it could be read by older teens, but the rest of the stories are really graphic. One of the stories involves rape, but doesn't go into much detail. I liked most of the vampire stories. The one about the boy on his way to school had me very confused as to why it was in the vampire section. As far as I could tell, there were no vampires in the story. The plain terror section was pretty graphic and a little too much for my weak stomach, especially the second story. Although that would be my fault for reading it. The author states at the beginning of the plain terror section that if don't like gore, or have a weak stomach, to skip the story. The sad thing about the second story is that hate crimes still happen like that in different countries around the world. I loved how all of the stories tied together at the end, and you began to understand the characters a lot better. I can't wait to read more of the author's work in the future.

Kayla gives Cuentos: 3/5.

Seth's review of the Science Fiction section:
Cuentos had a few things I didn't like in it. The first, and most notable is that the grammar and spelling need a lot of work. The stories took me longer to read because in some parts I had to read a paragraph several times or it to make sense. The second is that the author wrote a lot of polygamist relationships in the stories. In two out of three sci-fi stories, there are two examples of men with three women. It makes the story seem a little tacky. The stories themselves were okay. They would have been better if they would have had an editor.

Seth gives Cuentos: 2/5.

Altogether, Cuentos rates: 2.5/5.

I enjoyed the author's voice in these short stories! He prefaced each one with some insight of his own which helped set the scene that I really enjoyed as much as the stories themselves. All the characters and worlds were well developed; they really drew me into the stories. I don't recall any typos at all. The author's first language is not English and is evident in some of the wording of his earlier works, but he has such a way with words that it did not take away from the stories at all. I would recommend his books!

Part One is about Vampires, these were my favorite. The Hunter is a short story about a vampire hunter who takes his job to the extreme! The Recycling Kid is a scary YA story about vampires. Old Friends Keep Tabs is a story about checking in on an old friend. (I would love to have more stories with Williams and Clayton.) A Window in Time is a metaphysical tale of soul sucking. Part Two is just plain terror! There are two very twisted horror stories. Part Three is Science Fiction which, I am just starting to enjoy. These are a bit pulp influenced by Bradbury. Also included is an excerpt from AI Rebellion and Eco Station One

From vampires to science fiction, Stark's Cuentos has a little bit for everyone. I'm usually not a fan of short story collections, but Cuentos was pleasantly surprising. My personal favorite was the first story-The Hunter. For anyone that thinks they've read every possible spin on the vampire story...you ain't seen nothing yet!

The author's introductions were warm and inviting and the stories made chills run down my spine as I sat on the edge of my seat waiting for the next bout of awesomeness. For an almost criminally low amount of money ($0.99), what are you waiting for??

This is a really good collection of short stories covering both horror & sci-fi genre's. Each story has a brief intro by the author regarding it's background which make entertaining reading in their own right.

For me the stand out stories from the collection were the first four vampire tales as they all cross over one way or another but also lay the foundations for another book by Edwin Stark, The Clayton Chronicles.

Get it, read it & rate it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I haven't had a book of short stories to read in awhile, and I enjoyed this break from reading longer novels. From vampires to zombies to sci-fi space stories, Edwin Stark's descriptive writing style is great and keeps you reading. He shares some creepy and twisted tales in this collection, and I recommend it for anyone looking for that genre.

This review is from: Cuentos (Kindle Edition)
I truly love mysteries, but short stories are just fun. Combine a mystery with a short story, then throw in a vampire hunter, a werewolf, and a few other gory creatures, and you've really got me. I highly recommend this book, but only for the daylight hours, unless you don't mind losing sleep at night.

This collection of stories reminded me of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone. I recomend this book to anyone who enjoys a short story to wisk them away for a while.
