The city of New Orleans is a very cultural city, from the food we eat, to the music, and lastly to the festivities. The city of New Orleans is a place like no other. You will never be bored in a place like New Orleans. This book talks about two pelicans taking a journey through New Orleans, showing the many different things that the New Orleans has to offer. This is a great book to teach little children about the cultures and activities that New Orleans has and about where they live. If you are not from New Orleans it is a fun book that can teach your children about the things that go on in the city. Then, one day you can take them here and go on an adventure with them, like the pelicans did in the book. The illustrations do a great job at capturing all of the aspects of New Orleans living and the culture we have here.
Hello, New Orleans! is a board style picture book that talks about the sights a pelican parent and child see as they visit New Orleans, Louisiana. The book shows different landmark locations such as; Preservation Hall, the French Quarter, St. Charles Avenue, and shows many aspects of Cajun food and culture. The book itself is a thick board book, which was great for my young daughter to handle, but the text would be too complicated for a beginning reader. However, it is a wonderful book to read with your child/student to introduce them to a rich culture with unique characteristics.
This is the perfect book for anyone, any age to introduce themselves to the places to go when visiting New Orleans, or for those of us who know it well, to make us homesick! Follow Pelican and Duck through The Big Easy! If you have visited NOLA before you will love this book, as the two make stops at all your favorite familiar places! I’ll expand upon the places the book shows Pelican and Duck but doesn’t mention specifically, so just in case you’re planning a trip, take notes!: Have beignets (and don’t forget the café au lait) at Café du Monde across from Jackson Square! Cruise down the Mississippi on the Steamboat Natchez! Listen to jazz at Preservation Hall in the French Quarter! Ride the street car down St. Charles Avenue! Visit the zoo and aquarium or ride the carousel in City Park! Earn your beads in the Mardi Gras parades! Stick around a few months and check out all the great blues and zydeco bands at Jazz Fest in the spring! Many of you may know Ms. Zschock is the author of the Journey Around series. I first heard of her from this book but I will say, if the rest are as good as this one, then it’s worth buying the whole series! Read more at www.diapers-and-daydreams.com
