A book with just enough personality to make for interesting reading but not enough to distract from the topic. This was the only book that really prepared me for how bleak and blighted parts of Johnstown are, as well as the confusing roads to get out of the town. Thank goodness for GPS-enabled phones, or I might still be lost in Johnstown. This book also pointed me in the direction of a fantastic chicken restaurant in Cambria City (Our Son's Family Restaurant) across from the Heritage Discovery Center.
No color photos or an in-depth guide to all of PA, but the text made up for these deficiencies: a gentle weaving of history, commentary, and current events.
Where are the maps?! Great book; lots of useful information for planning a trip through PA. It could be greatly improved with a route map for each chapter & a better overall map with the area covered seen on a big map of the state.
