In today’s pluralistic society, not every approach to sharing the gospel will work with all people. Being ready to give reasons for the hope we have in Christ means understanding the contextual framework of the people we are addressing. In the Holman QuickSource Guide to Christian Apologetics , Renaissance man Doug Powell defends the Christian faith in a new key; taking timehonored approaches in apologetics and freshly presenting them for a new generation. Chapters 1. What Is Apologetics? 2. The Cosmological Argument for God’s Existence 3. The Teleological Argument for God’s Existence 4. The Axiological Argument for God’s Existence 5. Which God Exists? 6. Where Did the New Testament Come From? 7. Is the New Testament Reliable? 8. ExtraBiblical Evidence for Jesus 9. Is the Old Testament Reliable? 10. The Fulfillment of Prophecy 11. What About Miracles? 12. Was Jesus Raised from Death? 13. Did Jesus Claim to Be God? Is He the Only Way? 14. How can God allow Evil, Pain, and Suffering?
One of the best books I have read in a long time. Easy explanations and examinations of ideas. This is a must read if you are a Christian or interested in Christianity. It validated many of my ideas and answered questions.
Very helpful overview of apologetics. An understandable read for any age Christian. The manner in which the chapters were laid out allowed for a clearer understanding of the material. It was also wise that he saved the method comparison for the final chapter so as not to read apologetic bias into the earlier material.
I encourage any believer who is looking for a beginner level understanding of apologetics to read this. This gives thorough insight into key arguments and defenses of the faith. Although these chapters touch very briefly on each subject, Doug Powell does an excellent job of citing resources for you to continue your journey. This is a must read!
This book had so much information that it actually became confusing in the last chapter. I felt there was too much over explaining on all the different types of Apologetics. Overall I would read again, maybe I wouldn't be quite as confused.😱😏
An excellent summary of Christian apologetics. It explained to me parts of God and reality I never understood. I highly recommend this for everyone, Christians well-versed in apologetics and skeptics alike.
One of the most succinct and easily-understandable primers on Christian apologetics. Ive read several and this is the first I’d recommend to anyone interested in the topic
It was okay. It covered a lot of material that I've read in other books well. The chapters about choosing the method/tools for discussing apologetics was interesting: Classical apologetics (logic) Evidentialism: (factual verification of claims in the Bible; traditional apologetics) Presuppositionalism: a deductive argument that presupposes the existence of something and provides evidence for it (i.e., that God exists and why He exists) Fideism (Faith)
I read this book for school this the only reason I read it; I had to make myself read it especially with me having to buy the paperback because I don't like using e-books for school. So when I got the paperback I could read it better. But it was still boring, in my opinion, glad that I finally finish this book.
This is an excellent overview of Christian Apologetics. And, though it is divided into separate chapters that could easily be read out of order, it is much better to read this book in order (from beginning to end). This is an excellent book by a very talented and intelligent author.
Provides a clear and positive case for Christianity utilizing science, philosophy, and history. A great apologetics work to grasp the big picture. Highly recommended.
I personally find how easy and with interest we can read as the most important thing in apologetics. This is a fairly well written book in that regard.
