The "Essentials" section seems quite large which is reassuring to a person like me who's somewhat fearful of brand new places and situations. It includes info on tipping, haggling, clothes to pack, staying healthy, temperature ranges, culture, etiquette, etc.
Unfortunately, the maps aren't all that impressive. Neither were the sample itineraries, at least for my needs.

Served us well on a recent trip. Great for getting and idea about where you might want to go and some starting points for in-country travel and hotels (then doing supplementary research on the Internet, which is cake for Costa Rica). Helped keep the budget down!
