Two Cool Coyotes

"The playful protagonist of  Way Out West Lives a Coyote Named Frank  returns, this time to find a new friend when an old one departs."-- Booklist

Frank’s best friend, Angelina, is one of a kind. Angelina is smart and brave and she can howl at the moon even louder than Frank can. But one day Angelina tells Frank that her family is moving far away. With his best friend gone, Frank finds that tickling tarantulas and counting cloud bunnies just aren’t the same. Then Larry and his family move in next door. Larry is different from Angelina, but Frank soon finds that he’s special in his own way.

"A good book to share with one or two children on a lap. All in all, a well-done title with lots of personality."-- School Library Journal

“Plenty of giggle-inducing visual jokes.”— Booklist

Super cute read about what happens to a coyote pup when his best friend, whom he does everything with, moves away.

The struggle is real, but could a new neighbor be a new friend?

Cute story of Frank and Angelina, 2 cool coyotes!

Super cute illustrations and a great intro for kids about desert wildlife.

Super easy read aloud too. Would work well with a western theme

Text to Real World Connection

Two Cool Coyotes written by Jillian Lund is a story about two coyotes named Frank and Angelina that live in the desert. They are best friends that love to play together until that comes to a sudden end. Angelina finds out that she will be moving away with her family. Although they will remain friends, they will not be able to spend time together. Frank becomes sad and cries for days because he misses his friend. A new coyote moves into the den across from Frank and they become best friends. This book definitely makes a real world connection to many situations that students may go through where they will not see someone for a long time and how to cope with the emotions. I think this literature is a good book to give power to such situations in children's lives. I do think the pictures could have been better but, great book.

A really good "desert animals" story about having a friend move away and a new friend move in next door. I appreciated the fact that Frank was allowed to cry all day, and the next day too. And the book reassures kids that liking the new friend doesn't mean you've forgotten about the old friend.

Great for friendship theme, or "desert animals". The coyotes go out howling, and the kids' enjoyed howling with them.

This is a fun book to teach children that two people are ever alike but that's what makes us fun; our uniqueness. Great book and friendship and also on not being afraid to move on and make new friends.

Humorless pumas, kooky coatimundis, tumbleweed tumbling - what's not to love? Set in the Sonoran Desert, this is a great story about losing a friend and making a friend with wonderful pictures.

My pre-kinders loved this book. It wasn't one of my favorites, however, it was good for teaching about the desert and the animals that live there. A good book for desert unit.
