An AVP. Mystery Novel About a Sheik and what he encounters trying to do business in Wyoming. The Sheik is in the US in business and heard of as lucrative business proposition that he decides needs closer attention. As he tours the ranch he becomes smitten with a cowgirl and then she becomes involved in the window dressing. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHD
Seized by the Sheik takes you into the action as Sheik Efraim Aziz is on the verge of returning to his home country rather then finish his business is Wyoming. Convinced into taking one last horse back ride he finds himself mesmerized by Callie McGuire who works for the Department of Foreign Affairs and whose job it is to convince him to stay. However as an unknown gunman threatens them they are driven closer together.
I haven't read many books by Ann Voss Peterson but this first one was a bit... bumpy for a lack of a better word I suppose. While the initial plot did draw me in as did the penultimate action the part in the center between them just dragged on for what seemed like forever, to the point where it nearly turned me off the story. Also the romantic relationship between Efraim and Callie, it felt like there was something missing between the beginning of the book where they were trying to ignore how they felt and when they started kissing and then going at it. I do understand that adrenaline can cause ensuing sexy times in a mad rush of 'thank goodness we're alive sex' but it still feels like we've missed a step.
The portrayal of the town's reaction to a conference of Middle Eastern leaders is a Midwestern town was pretty realistic, especially for the time period. Not many romance novels that have Middle Eastern leads romancing American women in America in the Post 9/11 world ever acknowledge Islamaphobia which is a pretty persistent problem in the Western world.
Overall I would give this book 3.5 hearts out of 5 particularly for how easily the book sucks you into its narrative and how interesting and different our cast is. Negative aspect include a few chapters of make-work problems of both characters not getting the truth out there and the slow pace of the less action-packed middle parts. Seized by the Sheik has some of the same problems other Intrigue novels have had including the romance feeling tacked on on occasion. However for anyone who enjoys Peterson's books this will be a great choice.
The plotline behind this story does not begin nor end within the pages of this particular book, so be prepared for many questions left unanswered. That being said, this story in itself is a wonderful read, full of danger, excitement, and tingling anticipation. Callie and Efraim are going up against the worst of odds to be together, but what is in their hearts comes across as true and honest. They do not deny the difficulties that lie ahead and that only makes you want them to succeed even more.
Confusing. It felt like there was a first half of the book i missed. There might be, I have not checked. But it was a good book that dealt directly with the racial problems and views that the united states has on all Arab descendents just because of the war we are fighting. Not all of these people are alike, just like a New Yorker is not like a Californian. We may both be Americans but we have different personality bases and mannerisms. Overall was a great book but it could use better organization in the background unless there is a first book, then I apologize.
This was an awesome book that was so much better than the first book of the series. The hero was likable and wasn't the atypical obstinate and self righteous sheikh. The heroine was brave and smart and she didn't do anything stupid. I always hate when an author creates a stupid woman. And the plot was fantastic, there were plenty of twists and turns, and a couple sub plots that added to the story. And it was the perfect murder mystery, everything was laid out for the reader pretty early on but who the murderer was is very unexpected. 5★'s!!!
I've heard of a horse breaking into a trot but never one breaking "into a jog." Cracked me up. I pictured a horse on his hind legs running through the badlands.
