Efficient kitchen organization and operation is described for busy single or married homemakers. Numerous practical hints given in humorous narrative include: setting up a system to make menu-planning automatic; establishing and using a master grocery list to make food shopping more rapid; organizing the storage areas with a wet-hot-cold-dry plan; handling leftovers; breaking the TV habit for dinner; and maintaining a neat and orderly kitchen efficiently. Selected recipes, planning sheets, and information on food group and calorie needs for children at various ages, are appended.
Once again, I enjoyed the vulnerability and insights into these ladies lives through this book and I am interested in adapting the system they’ve outlined. However, this book in comparison with the first S.H.E manual really delves into some 70s diet culture that was not fun to read and for that reason I wouldn’t keep a copy in my house. Some truly sweet insights into parenting and personal growth of the two authors, and of course a fascinating observation of gender roles in their community but unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy it as much as the original and I found that the system outlined was a bit more dated and specific to elements of life no longer relevant to me so it will need to be more heavily adapted.
