Everyone knows the public Prince Charles, but few know the real Prince Charles or the true story of what tore him and Diana apart. Here, in a series of startling revelations, is an eye-opening portrait of Charles's disastrous marriage to Diana. Included is up-to-date information on the recent books by James Hewitt and Charles himself. Martin's Press.
I always enjoy books about Charles & Diana that were published prior to her death or even before they were divorced. They provide a different perspective when the future tragedy is an unforeseeable event. It’s almost like entering into an almost parallel universe where, together or not, Charles & Diana would still be around & the future of how they would continue to operate as parents of the boys & important figures on the world stage. An added plus is I don’t have to read about that last summer, the crash, & the funeral. I lived through it & tend to avoid any further coverage on it. I have some TV documentaries that I have watched repeatedly & once they get up to the crash, I stop watching. It’s also interesting to wonder if the books pre-Diana’s death are more truthful in negative depictions of her than books written afterwards because of the near sanctification of her due to her shocking death at a young age. This book is easy to read, entertaining, & seems pretty straight up, despite basically every book written on either Prince Charles or Diana before her death had an agenda pushing one side over the other. However, I’m sure anyone interested in the real truth & history of the relationship between these two as well as insight into the individuals themselves knows, as I do, to read basically everything you can get your hands on about them from all angles & maybe somewhere in the middle there’s a hint of truth. In all cases, what can be confirmed is true of all people & relationships, Royal or not, they are complex, complicated, & cannot be viewed all bad or all good. There are elements of both in all parties involved.
